Definition & mechanism:
In the official Shadow Era's wiki, Casting Cost is abbreviated as "cc".
Casting Cost resources and sacrificed cards are closely related, because in order to play a card from hand and to activate some abilities, the player needs to sacrifice X cards, where X is the Casting Cost of all cards and the cost of the activate ability some allies, items and locations possess.

- Resources stack with the cards you choose to sacrifice from your hand each turn and add up by stacking one on top of the other and position face down in the bottom right of the playing mat, below the graveyard, in the resource pile.
- Resources can each be used once per turn.
So, for example, if you have 2 resources, you may play one card that costs 2 resources or two cards that cost 1 resources.
At your next turn, if you sacrifice a new card, you will have then 3 resources (2 from previously turns plus one from the actual one) and may play one card that costs 3 resources, and so on.
- There is a number at the top left of the resources pile (J) that indicates how many resources you have.
For example, if you have 7 resources and you play a card that has a 2 casting cost resources, you will then have 5 resources left and that will be indicated as follow: 5/7.
- At the end of each turn, all player’s resources are renewed.
- When a resource is removed, it is the top card that is removed and is placed "out of the game".
- A removed resource is not considered as exiled.
- When a card is placed into the resources pile, it is placed on top of it.
- In order to cast a card or to activate an ability with a casting cost greater than 0 during the action phase, player must :
- First, spend the casting cost with their resources they have available.
- e.g.: To summon Aldon the Brave, resources at disposal must be greater than or equal to 3
- Then, resolve the condition(s) the ability has.
- e.g.:To cast Fireball, a hero or an ally must be targeted.
- The player does not need to previously had resource(s) to cast a 0 cc card.
- During his first turn, player may skip his sacrifice phase and play a 0 cc ability.
- Within the digital game:
- Summoning / playing any card from hand is performed by the button "Cast".
- Activate any card's ability in play is performed by the button "Ability".
