Does haste work for ally "returned to play" ?

Hi. I have been enjoying SE for almost a year. But this is my first post. I hope this is a right category for discussing rules.

Some days ago I read a thread that said haste should work for ally returned to play, so portal and Gravebone would work well.
And someone replied that I am sorry, but haste only works for ally that is summoned.

But I just played with Lance and he used the ability on Karlstrad(ally does not matter though) returned to play by Earthen Protecter.
Basically Karlstrad attacked and killed by Consuming fear and returned, and attacked again with Lance's ability.

If it is not bug, I will simply accept that. As a haste and EP lover, this is a good surprise.

But at the same time it does not really make sense.

Can someone explain that?

Welcome to the forums udacian.

The right place to post this would technically be the card rulings section, where Mojumbo can give an official explanation, but my guess as to the ruling would be that with Gravebone and Portal, the haste does not work, because the ability that would cause the haste (Portal) is in play as the ally enters, but with Lance hasting an ally, it is brought back into play, then having the haste applied to it after being brought back in.

That's my explanation of how I'd assume it works, but as I said, Mojumbo would be the one to give the official ruling as to why it all works that way, or if it is a bug or not. I know there was a time when Portal did work on allies brought back in by Gravebone, but that was apparently a bug, but I don't think Lance's ability is considered the same. I could be wrong though myself.

Heya,

That is a bug. Haste is only supposed to work on allies that were summoned (played from your hand to the field) this turn. Returning an ally to play is not considered a summon and therefore should not work with Haste. For example, Portal does not grant haste to allies returned to play with Gravebone's ability.

Thank you all for help. Oh it is supposed be in card ruling section. I will keep that in mind.
I just played Lance by myself against AI. And yes, haste worked.
That means Lance's ability has been like that since beginning, because it has nothing to do with DP.
I cannot believe I never noticed.

Until this bug is fixed, I am going to take advantage of that.
Lance will be more fun!

Anyway, now the definition of haste is clear!

so lance's ability to give haste is only supposed to be for allies you summoned? so if he could bring an ally into play from the graveyard, he couldnt haste it? that would suck.

Haste specifically says that an ally can be used the turn it is summoned. Summoned is specifically stated to be playing to the board from your hand. Therefore, if an ally is returned to play from the graveyard, no matter how it gains haste, it still cannot be used the turn it returns from the graveyard. We have been over this and over this ever since they clarified that and shut down Gravebella and the Gravebone Portal.
