I'd like to see the rating curve

good day fine forum folks, I would like to make a request.

I understand that the rating system puts players on a curve so that there are few at the top/bottom ratings and many in the middle.
I would like to see a graph of this. One that plots the ratings against the number of players currently on that rating. This would, in my mind at least, show an interesting picture of the playing field.

Let me know what you think.

While an interesting idea, there is a problem with your suggestion. And that is: a lot of the higher rated accounts don't play anymore. I know I have my main account sitting at 334 rating or something like that, but I haven't actually played a rated game with it for I think 2 months now. So the question is: Do you put these accounts in that rating curve?

I would say yes, because those accounts affect the curve whether they are played or not. And I imagine it would be easier to just include all accounts.

On a different note, if such a graph were to be released every once in a while we could see (and plot) the curve over time. Which would make for even more awesome stats, especially after a rating reset

a rating decay would be good to keep players playing games and not stopping once they reach a high rank.

I wanted to see this for a while now. Even if it can't be a whole graph a release of the mean and standard deviation would be nice, just to know where we stand.

Of course I think most active players would be around the 200 range, but the mean and average are most likely heavily skewed towards the lower end because of players that only play for a week and then quit.
    - it's so blatantly obvious i'm gonna win that they usually quit. =(. i feel like i have to hold back so they won't leave.

Judging by my knowledge of statistics, which is not great, it would be a regular old Bell Curve with the top point being somewhere around 220.

Actually, that's impossible, really, thanks to the 40c minimum for multiplayer. Wulven just has to have a way to filter out accounts that have never played in 1.5 multiplayer.

disagreement! See how reasons for these graphs keep piling on? Dire need indeed
