It would be nice if the server tracked how long people are waiting to act. Now that they see a timer, griefing has gotten a lot easier.

i'd like to see a timer for my opponents too (i.e. how long they have to go). sometimes i'm sitting wondering if the connection is on my end or if they're stalling or thinking or what.

I think you do see a timer. I was in a game where the opponent was taking a while. Then the timer appeared. Only happened once or twice though so I don't know if it's consistent.

i thought that timer was on you. when it shows the wireless icon with a slash and a counting down timer that's them then?

I don't think so. Whenever I got that timer, it was always on my turn (because I took some time to make a move) and it alternated between the wireless icon and the zzzz.

I see that when I'm taking too long to play but it was my opponent's turn when I saw that before so I assumed that was their countdown. And it did disappear after he did something.

The wireless icon can also indicate client-server problems I assume? Since I seem to get it reasonably often despite my connection being fine.

And to echo what's been said above, it only ever seems to happen during the opponent's turn.

Well, obviously But what's happening is the icon appears after 30 secs (?) and it shows the wireless icon and then changes to zzz. And I really doubt it's my connection. Not that I'm immune to these issues, but this happens when I take to long to make my move. Nothing points to my Internet failing me. Unlike the others though, I've only seen it happen during my turn, so I'm thinking it's just the regular "make-your-move-already" timer, but the game can't decide what icon it wants to use...
