Thoughts on gameplay vs deck vs draw

Rating: 2 votes, 2.00 average.
After about 2 Months of play two random thoughts on the game:

- There's a lot of focus on deck building on the Forum, probably because it's an easy-to-discuss topic. But I have the impression that gameplay quality is at least as important. If I were to take the exact same deck as a 300+ player, I would not get *near* that rating. An expert player anticipates on his own cards to come, on the likely opponent cards to come, on who goes first, on the board, on who has card advantage, on who is beat-down, and no doubt other factors as well, and then draws up a plan for the next few turns. Whereas a mediocre player (me for instance) is just glad to get through a single turn without the feeling that the resources weren't used economically, or "o shit, maybe he plays Tidal Wave next and *then* I'm screwed..." But how to work on gameplay improvement?

- The draw is really important. A bad starting hand can mean a certain loss. So conclusions about a deck can really only be made after a *large volume* of matches. Of course noone has the patience for that - I certainly don't! - so if you lose two matches because of lack of cards you add more Bazaars, and if your weenies get wiped you add biggies. It's a bit like poker, in the sense that you need large volumes to draw conclusions, and really against the same opponent too, because 19 Matches against all the other heroes *still* may not yield much in terms of useful conclusions.

Well it's probably because there is such a lot of uncertainty involved in this game (e.g. what cards you will draw in what order, what cards your opponent plays) that talking sensibly about gameplay is difficult.
