I am using your Serena Deck... and I just realized you mark it as a "not bad" (**) deck...

What upgrades would you put on that deck to make it better? I like the Rogue class (not to mention most of my cards are Rogue or human). I have some gold and I could sell some cards to make a better deck.

Hey Raph, hadn't checked out this thread before, great work!

I have one suggestion regarding your purchasing approach that can save people a bit of money (but cost them a bit of time due to more cards to sell.) In general it's best to purchase 4x of each class starter deck. This is because most starters only have 1 copy of key class cards. For example, the warrior starter has 1x blood frenzy, 1x crippling blow and 1x smashing blow. Buying 1 of each of those costs 300 gold, which is more than the extra gold you get from selling a elemental deck over a shadow warrior (about 100 gold.) The same goes for Mages (lightning and ToK are 250 gold) hunters (arrows are 100 each) and Wulven (Speedstrike, WBT, Captured Prey are 300.) Priests and rogues are debatable based on the decks in this article, 1x is probably better.

This will also round out their decks a bit more by giving 4x copies of cards like Arcane burst, poison gas & engulfing flames, surprise attack, aimed shot, warrior training, as well as the more important ones listed above. Although not the focus of this post it saves you a lot more when you are completing your collection.

As long as you get 3x human boosters (mainly for retreat) the rest can be shadow since the base shadow cards sell for a bit more.

It's more around the hero than the cards themselves. Serena is a mid range hero, whereas her counterpart Lance is a top tier hero.

It's a deck that will perform better in the current meta, not so much an "upgrade".

Give it a shot and see which you like better. You should find Lance is more consistent.

Serena will never be tier 1 in this meta hence there's no way to make her ***.

Check out wtzky's beginner guides on various heroes to learn what hero tiers are. I highly recommend them. 5 star guides, In short, based on the current card pool and various possible combos and card interactions, some heroes will be better off than others. For example, using Serena as an example, lance and her has the same exact card pool, but lance is clearly the stronger of the 2.

Another example is between zhanna and Jericho.

But, but, but....

The players do not have to worry much, as the expansions are being released for SE, the design team is always looking at ways to balance the usage of heroes. For example, new powerful weapons could be introduced for rogues, these will be less useful for lance, making Serena relatively more balanced vs lance. In the case of jericho vs zhanna, maybe new attachments might become popular and sever ties becomes popular too, Jericho will then have an edge since he does not need to pack any sever ties, allowing him to pack more good cards in his deck.

Omg, hatts u might be right in a few aspects. I will try it out with a new account.

1 consideration I had was not to confuse the new players, hence I did not want to take the route of 'buy 2 hunter packs, buy 3 shadow Mage decks, buy 4 priest decks.' but I think u got it right.

I started this Project using a new account. Bought $19.99. I will do this again. You have stirred my curiosity, hatts!
