No Foils with a $12 purchase of Shadow Crystals?

I recently bought a $1.99 and $9.99 packs of Shadow Crystals. I bought 13 Dark Prophecies booster packs (digital ) in hoping of some cool rare cards and a few foils(: However, out of the 13 packs i didn't get a single foil. If the chances of receiving a foil in a booster is 1/5 i should have gotten 2 foils but i didn't even get 1 (which i was expecting). Is there a way or a number of times you need to buy boosters to get a foil or is it completely random?

Oh the irony, im on the test server to hopefully get a foil to make me feel a bit better only to find the first booster I open I get a Serena as my hero and a foil frostmire..

It's random, just because you have a 1/5 chance of getting a foil (20%), doesn't really mean it will be successful the 5th time if the other 4 were not. That is quite unfortunate luck for you though.

Let me see if I can phrase it this way. Imagine you have a bag with with 5 pieces of paper in it, with a number written on each piece of paper. Your goal is to reach into the bag without looking and pull out the piece of paper with the number 1 written on it. After any failed attempt at doing so, you must put the other paper back into the bag, and you keep trying to pull out paper #1. But because you are pulling randomly, you might actually take several more than just 5 attempts to pull out the right paper, even though you technically have a 1 in 5 chance each time.

With the packs, the chances of an individual pack having a foil are 1 in 5, and for each pack that doesn't have a foil, that is like putting a paper with the wrong number back into the bag, you are resetting the odds. It's like each pack individually has a 1 in 5 chance, not that there are actually guaranteed to be 1 foil in every 5 packs. Not sure how this might work diffeerently for like the physical card booster boxes, where they could technically have ways of putting a certain amount of foils in each box I guess (as in Yu-Gi-Oh! booster boxes you generally get a certain number of each rarity per box).

And just like whoisSAVAGE I might be somewhat guilty of stealing some foils, lol. I got I think 10 foils in 19 packs once (about a 1 in 2 ratio).

Hope that explanation actually makes sense. I had it in my mind, but hard for me to type it out all phrased correctly.

Last time I bought SC I opened like 9 packs and got 4 foils: Baduruu, Darkclaw, Beetle Demon Bow and Berserker's Edge. Well I got lucky, since the other time I got Gwenneth and Logan opening 4 packs.

If you think about it, the odds of NOT getting a foil are 80%. 0.8^13 is a little under 0.055, so there is approximately a 5.5% chance of getting no foils in 13 packs.

It kind of sucks, because that means that out of 19 people that opened 13 packs, you were the only one to not get a foil.

If you notice on the physical booster packs, it even has a disclaimer on the back that says that although the chances of getting a foil/epic are 1 in 5, this ratio is not guaranteed to be present in any given sample of booster packs.
