Not sure if it's related, but I'm using Firefox and I got suddenly McAfee installed on my computer, even though I never really installed it. Removed it again.

Mcafee is often bundled with all sorts of programs so you should carefully read what is offered to you during the installation procedure instead of just clicking on next. As for paid antivirus programs, Nod32 and Kaspersky are commonly used in my country, while on the free spectrum Avast is the king. All three of these programs regularly have high scores in the Virus Bulletin's tests. Hope this helps.

If you use Adobe Flash it tries to install McAfee every time you update it.

    Just get rid of McAfee.

Sometimes anti-viruses do more bad that good, and by sometimes I mean most of the time if you know what you doing.

Uninstall McAfee, install Malwarebytes, problem solved.
Malwarebytes has fixed everything for me with no problems, no begging for money every 30 minutes and it's free. (I'm pretty sure there is a paid version for upgrades but the free version is just as good.)
