Jazz, I'm puzzled. Can I keep my old hero or am I required to choose a new one for rd 2? Grateful for your clarification.

I re-read and believe I am required to choose a new hero.

Correct!

Upper brackets players - choose a new hero for Round 2 from the list!
Lower brackets players - play the same hero in Round 1, then select a new hero for Round 2!

In general, when you transfer from the upper brackets to the lower brackets you keep the hero you lost with, but then you may choose a new one for the next round!
