Firstly, the daily rewards are great! It's very generous of the developers!

The 3 Free Booster packs are super too!

How far can I go as a F2P player based on the new daily rewards?

I am very curious. IGN: F2P Raph Majere

I started with Boris. Reasons:

• The best way to gain gold and exp is at Ranked matches. I want a deck around a 30% (or better) win rate.
• T3 Blood Frenzy is very good.
• 3 Kris + King's Pride looks like a great combo.
• Boris's ability is decent compared to the other human heroes.
• Kris (Turn 1) + Bad Santa (Turn 2) + Blood Frenzy (T3) combo is too good not to abuse. So I need 4 Bad Santa.

I started gaining crystals and I think this first deck that I get at the merchant will be very important. That will be my second (human) hero. Since I already have 4 Bad Santa, the obvious choice was to get one of the Elad decks.

But I am jumping the gun. Here is my current Boris deck:

The building process:

1. Open all 3 boosters (I received TWO foils!)
2. Cut deck down to 40 cards (Because you will want to maximize your chances of the Kris (Turn 1) + Bad Santa (Turn 2) + Blood Frenzy (T3) combo IF you are going first in a game)
3. Reach 4 Blood Frenzy
4. Reach 4 Cripple Blow
5. Reach 4 Bad Santa
6. Get Spectral Sabre if you have a daily reward task that requires summoning of weapons, otherwise get Yari Marksman(s)
7. Get Viska
8. Get Javalin

What else should I buy to improve the deck? Keeping in mind that my goal is to go as far as I can in this game based on F2P and hence I need to try my best to get the daily 25 Crystals reward.)

I looked at the 2 Elad decks at the merchant. Just 75 crystals more and I can get the "tainted magic" deck over the starter Elad deck. Tainted Magic is way better. By swapping out 2 Amulet of conjuring with 2 Bad Santa, I instantly get a decent deck I can win with at Ranked matches.

I haven't decided yet. If one of my daily rewards task requires a specific hero, I might just buy a different premium deck.

For example, one of the daily rewards task is "summon 5 armor" - this can be easily achieved if I get Serena's premium deck "Deadly Dealings".

Yeah i would recommend going for tainted magic by far has high winning rates and also very similar to loest deck if u someday want to buy him

Hi, new player here, cool to see someone with such experience also trying F2P :) I've been grinding for about a month, and totally agree, the starter packs, rewards and such are super generous!

Some random thoughts and experiences I picked up during my road to building good decks:

- Preconstructed "tuned" decks are an amazing investment! Sure, 275SC don't get collected over night, but you really get value for money, they contain so many good cards (Elad has 2 Bad Santa, Zhanna has 2 Nathanias, Victor has 2 Soul Seekers etc).
- If you don't want to stick to one hero, changing heroes is a great way to grind since you start with 0XP for each hero. A hero costs only 200GP so it's only a minor investment, and the pre-tuned decks allow changing a hero pretty easily. I also started with the Boris deck but made an Amber deck out of it instead and it works like a charm. Also, switching heroes allows picking up daily rewards more easily if you also pick other tuned decks.
- You probably know that already, but just in case - you can reset daily rewards once per day.

Day 2

BIG lesson learned: try not to sell cards unless I have more than 4 copies of a card. Some cards are useful in campaign. OR useful to complete daily rewards challenges.

Progress for ranked matches: I have a competitive Serena by day 2. That's amazing. Thanks to Colossal's URL links, I was able to sell cards that I know I won't use and get gold to buy cards.

I grinded till I reached 275 crystals and bought Deadly Dealings Premium deck.

It helps me to do the Daily Rewards challenges of "Summon 5 Armor" (Black Garb) and "Summon 5 weapons" easily. And it's relatively cheap to build.

Day 3

Serena's campaign completed. It was very fun! Reminds me of old Mtg "chessboard" challenges

I managed to grind enough to buy Zhanna's "Enduring Devotion" premium deck (275 Crystals).

It gets me 4 retreats which are needed to clear a couple of difficult Serena campaign AI opponents. (Covert Operative does not work well in some specific challenges)

"Enduring Devotion" also got me 3 Tainted Oracles and Ravens.

Clearing Serena's campaign wasn't easy, especially the last few stops.

For new F2P players, these are some critical cards needed in some decks to clear Serena's campaign:

(I do not go beyond 30 cards in a deck)

Kris, Retreats, Raven, Armored Sandworm, Spirit Shuriken (I have 2). Of course, you will need to tech your deck accordingly to beat a specific AI opponent.

Clearing Serena's campaign does require her premium deck cards.

I am doing Boris's campaign now. Once again, the "Enduring Devotion" is very helpful with Tainted Oracles (vs Jericho) and Nathans.

I intend to clear Zhanna's campaign after I finish Boris's.

So, for ranked matches, I will eventually end up with fairly good Boris/Serena/Zhanna decks. (Zhanna is needed for the "Win 2 games with Mage or Priest" daily challenge)

Day 4

I must be the biggest noob around.

I didn't know the daily rewards can be achieved by playing vs AI too. Doh!

Very generous of Kyle to provide the players with 25 crystals everyday. Kudos!

Completed Boris and Tala's campaigns - I must say, Tala's very last challenge vs AI Amber is significantly much harder than all the other challenges. Including Serana and Boris's campaigns.

For new players, to clear Boris and Tala's campaigns, U will need Kris, Retreats and the very important Yari Marksman (I used 3 for Boris and 4 for Tala, found it much easier to clear campaign challenges with 4)

Lastly, after 8+ years, Raven is still pleasing me.

(Survives Nova, leaves AI enemy allies on board instead of letting them go to the graveyard causes much pain to AI's Wrath of the forest and Shadow Knight cycling and AI gravebone.)

Doing Zhanna tomorrow.

Day 4 Rated Games Update

I knew I needed 1 x Kion for my Zhanna deck eventually so I bought him. (3200 gold)

I realized that it may be possible to build a competitive Lance deck so I did a check. Wow! All I need was a few more cards since I already bought Deadly Dealings Premium deck.

Completed Zhanna campaign, it was easy due to Tidal Wave, so yeah, get the Enduring Devotion Deck!

My competitive Zhanna deck is as below, while I am doing the campaign, I bought the 5 cc Knights (3 for now) and they helped make games vs Mages a breeze. For campaign, Ravens are still the top 5 cc ally.

Day 6

*Challenge for everyone* - try beating Victor Campaign node 1-10. It's incredibly difficult. Post your solution here.

I cleared Victor's campaign. Two nodes was hard. 1-10 is the obvious one. The other is 1-5.

Anyways, I started the campaign with Premium Victor deck with a few tweaks (duh), along the way I had enough crystals for Ythan's Premium deck, got it and it made Victor's campaign a breeze EXCEPT node 1-10.

(Also, I had 2 spirit shuriken from Serena premium so that helped a few games)

So now, I have a lot of good cards to play Gwen's campaign. (Including 4 SS and 4 Weevil Bow)

AND I have enough good cards to build a good rated games deck:

Enjoying the Campaigns a lot. The dialogues give it an old school RPG feel. The AI plays very well (With some improvements needed), overall am very impressed.

My key feedback regarding how the AI uses some heroes abilities:

I am going to assume that the game WANTS to feature each heroes's abilities so that a new player would WANT to buy those heroes.

Key notable improvements needed (IMHO):

1. Lance uses ability on summoned ally, but the said ally does not utilize the haste for attack. It just acts like a regular ally (gains Stealth, yes)
2. Logan always uses the enhanced weapon to hit the player instead of killing the most dangerous ally.

I tried to finish all 3 quests in every node. If Using human heroes, all nodes are can be completed. But it may not be worth it.

Why? For 50 gold and 150 exp (most difficult quest in the node), it might be easier (and faster) to play ranked matches, IF a new player is a good player and has a good deck.

For Shadow heroes, some quests are impossible and/or very hard and not worth the time and effort just to get 50 gold and 150 exp.

After 15 days, I have completed all that I pretty much want to do.

TL; DR: If you want to play Shadow Heroes as a new player, just spend cash. I do not recommend grinding at all

The process

Humans

Clear as many campaign quests as possible and complete the 25 crystals daily quest

Warriors

• Boris (Starting Hero) - easiest way to build a deck that does ok in ranked games (The exp gains in ranked matches is very good, even if you lose) (Buy 4 Yari Marksman as soon as you can)
• Tala - after clearing most of Boris campaign, just buy Tala from merchant, now you can clear Tala's campaign
• Amber - leave her alone for now, see below, only start her campaigns once you have the Premium DarkClaw deck

Rogues

• Serena - First premium deck I bought. Why? Because you will want to be able to do the daily rewards (25 crystals) easily. With Serena's premium deck, you can fufill Summon 5 armor and Summon 5 weapons easily
• Lance - use cards from Serena's deck + cards from human allies/abilities to clear campaign
• Garth - same as Lance

Priests

• Zhanna - My second premium deck, by now you will have enough gold too, so buy 4 wizient staff.
• Jericho - use cards from Serena's deck to clear campaign
• Threbin - same as Jericho but I will wait till I get 2 Sword of might from Ythan's Premium deck

Mages

• Elad - My third premium deck
• Nish - use cards from Elad's deck to clear campaign
• Aramia - same as Nish

Hunters

• Victor - Buy Victor's Premium deck first, then buy Ythan's premium deck once you have enough crystals
• Ythan - You would have the Ythan premium deck
• Gwen - use cards from Victor and Ythan's decks to clear campaign

Shadow Heroes

I do not recommend grinding to build any Shadow heroes. it's simply too hard, especially for new players

I tried it anyways.

Your first Shadow Premium deck should be Bloodfang's. Why? That deck is very good and will get you some wins in ranked games AND you can use the same/similar allies for Moonstalker in ranked games. Double win. AND you'll clear Bloodfang and Moon's campaign quests easily.

My first Shadow Premuim deck is Darkclaw's. Bought 2.

Recommended Shadow journey (regardless if you spent $$$ or not)

Wulven

• Bloodfang - Premium deck, clear campaign
• Moon - clear campaign
• Darkclaw - get 2 x Darkclaw's premium deck and you can now do ranked games. You can now also clear Amber's campaign)

Elementals

• Praxix - get FOUR Praxix premium deck. Your campaign games as you can expect, will become easier and easier as you acquire more and more praxix decks. This is the reason why I recommend spending some money. The grinding is too hard for new players.
• Zal
• Elementalis - you can get the his premium deck but I didn't. The main reason is because there are many single good cards in Praxix's premuim deck (like Brimstone Devourer and Falseblood cultist) and you will need 4 of each anyways.

Mages
(You now would have 4 Brimstone Devourer and 4 Falseblood Cultist, which you can use for every Shadow hero for campaign if you want)

• Raikka - get her premium deck (just 1 for now, EVENTUALLY you will need 2)
• Maj
• Gravebone

Warriors

• Logan - you have the weapons from the Darkclaw deck to clear campaign, and you have the warrior cards from the Human heroes.
• Ter Adun
• Vess - if you want to play Vess, you will need to get her Premium deck (EVENTUALLY you will need 2)

Hunters

• Shervox - get Shervox's premium deck. You also already have Hunter cards from the Human hunters
• Banebow
• Badurru

Do not spend gold unnecessarily. Watch the pros play first and see what cards they use. Great cards like Nathan, Kion cost a lot.

A summary of the (fairly) competitive ranked decks I was able to build after 15 days:

All Human Heroes

Shadow heroes: Badurru (4 grundler's double), Fire Majiya, Isadora Gravebone, Vess, Zal, Praxix, DarkClaw, Moonstalker, Bloodfang, Ravenger Adun

Tribes completed:

Krugal
Ravenger

Current grinding goals (non-linear journey):

• Undead Tribe (for Banebow, many of which are already in the shadow premium decks purchased)

I might tell u about my journey in SE as i might be the only idiot who started playing in 2016 with shadow heroes despite human recommendations, i wanted elementals then i saw how expensive they are and like u chose wulvens first, i searched the internet and forums to find out the fastest way to earn gold by then was raikka deck, et voila i grinded, watched ads and watched others play and made competitive decks and so on til i collected all shadow cards then the humans were so damn easy.

yes, haha, I am glad the Raikka trick is still being used even today. Ads, I did not see them. Am on PC. is this still a feature or no more?

Since the daily quests no but it was available on android it was 5sc for the ad and they were infinite i believe

very nice! I think the daily quests are more fun. 25 crystals is very generous really. thumbs up.

After 18 days,

1. Yari Boris done (I already have 2 Kion and 2 Nathan), with Nana, Dragon tooths and Rest for the weary (not essential). Getting the Vess Premium deck first helped a lot. (I have 2 Vess premium deck actually)

2. Undead Banebow done (even with a few expensive Undead allies/Necro shroud)

3. Amplifyer/Steadfast allies Elementalis done - Getting the premium Elementalis deck made this a breeze. The other cards (gold laced shield, elemental allies) are not too expensive at the merchant.

I am getting a little stuck now. Thankfully, I don't have much I really want to get.

Most of my heroes are level 7 now. That means I need to win 8 games per hero in ranked games to level up to level 8 to get 25 crystals.

Going to be hard. :)

Very nice write-ups so far. I did a F2P playlist on my YouTube channel but that was before daily quests. I imagine it'd be even quicker now to build up the collection. I actually started with Lance because I felt like, once I got IGG and AB, I could get moving pretty well playing with it. With all that said, it's much easier playing F2P once you know what you're looking for in a deck.

Yes Jonmaciel, it's v fast with daily rewards now. :)

Lance is a good hero to start too. His cards can be used by Serena and Garth at campaign. with the added bonus that Lance, Serena and Garth do well in Ranked games.

What's really nice is for this game, we can always progress. bad decisions (I bought 4 glimmer of hope which were not cheap) simply means I need to win more ranked games to recover the gold that was used.

also, a note for new players, it's also easy to know which cards to buy. Just spectate all the top players' games and take note of the cards they have.
