Preview of Balance Changes for 3.13

Hi, all!

We're very pleased to announce balance changes coming in 3.13.


SHATTERED FATES

Bloodfang - Ability changed to "5SE: Target ally with claw attack in your hand is summoned at no cost, and it gains +1 base attack and +1 health if it is a Wulven ally." (from "5SE: Target Wulven ally in your hand is summoned at no cost, and it gains +1 base attack and +1 health.").

Gravemonger - Ability changed to "When Gravemonger is summoned while there are at least 6 cards in a graveyard, you may exile target card in a graveyard and Gravemonger gains +2 base attack and +2 health." (from "When Gravemonger is summoned while there are at least 6 cards in your graveyard, you may exile target card in your graveyard and Gravemonger gains +2 base attack and +2 health.").

Ravager Zealot - Stats changed to 2/5 (from 3/3). Ability changed to "When Ravager Zealot is summoned, you may destroy target item or ability you control; if you do, Ravager Zealot gains haste and then takes 1 damage." (from "When Ravager Zealot is summoned, you may destroy target item or ability you control; if you do, Ravager Zealot gains haste.").

Embers of the Just - Ability changed to "Attach to target opposing ally and that ally is set ablaze. If Embers of the Just is targeted and destroyed on your turn, target opposing hero or ally takes 4 arcane damage and you draw a card." (from "Attach to target opposing ally and that ally is set ablaze. If Embers of the Just is targeted and destroyed on your turn, it is returned to your hand and target opposing hero or ally takes 4 arcane damage.").


LOST LANDS

Sabreen - Ability changed to "While Sabreen is the only ally you control, she has haste. 1: Target card in your hand is discarded: target opposing ally takes 2 arcane damage." (from "While Sabreen is the only ally you control, she has haste. 1: Target card in your hand is discarded: target opposing ally takes 3 arcane damage.")

Towering Brute - Ability changed to "Towering Brute has +2 attack while damaged. Opposing allies with cost 3 or less have -2 attack the turn they are summoned." (from "Towering Brute has +2 attack while damaged. Towering Brute has +2 attack while in combat with allies with cost 3 or less.")

Eternal Troll - Ability changed to "When Eternal Troll is killed while no friendly Eternal Troll entered play this turn, it is returned to play." (from "When Eternal Troll is killed while it didn't enter play this turn, it is returned to play.").

Aldmor Sentry - Abiity changed to "Aldmor Sentry can't be disabled, and opposing allies have meek the turn they are summoned. 2SE: Target non-Aldmor ally is disabled for 2 turns." (from "While no opposing hero has more shadow energy than your hero, Aldmor Sentry has defender. 2SE: Target non-Aldmor ally is disabled for 2 turns.")

Ancient of Aldmor - Base attack reduced to 1 (from 9). Ability changed to "For each Aldmor ally you control, Ancient of Aldmor costs you 1 less resource to summon. Ancient of Aldmor has +X attack, where X is the amount of shadow energy your hero has stored." (from "For each Aldmor ally you control, Ancient of Aldmor costs you 1 less resource to summon. Ancient of Aldmor has -X attack, where X is the greatest shadow energy of all opposing heroes.").

Thriss Crucible - Ability changed to "When Thriss Crucible is targeted and destroyed, it is returned to play as a readied Ravager ally with 2 claw base attack and 5 health and then takes 1 damage." (from "When Thriss Crucible is targeted and destroyed, it is returned to play as a readied Ravager ally with 3 base attack and 3 health.").

Groundshift - Ability changed to "Duration 1. When Groundshift is summoned, the active location is exiled. Heroes and allies lose all passive abilities." (from "Duration 1. Sustain 1HP. When Groundshift is summoned, the active location is exiled. Opposing allies lose all passive abilities.").

Shadow Cannon - Cost reduced to 4cc (from 5cc).

Lorhon: Twilight Encampment - Non-controller ability changed to "0SE: If an opposing Twilight ally was killed this turn, all friendly allies gain +1 health." (from "0SE: If an opposing Twilight ally was killed this turn, all friendly allies gain +1 health and this location is exiled.").

Sosilo: Brother's Landing - Turn Number reduced to T4 (from T5).

Anmor: Garina Road - Turn Number reduced to T4 (from T5).

Irum: Lightning Quarry - Non-controller ability changed to "2SE: All allies take 2 damage. Shuffle this location into its owner's deck." (from "2SE: All allies take 2 damage. Exile this location.").

Racksul: Warped Desert - Controller ability changed to "0SE: The next card owned by an opposing player to be exiled this turn is placed in your hand." (from "0SE: The next card to be exiled this turn is placed in your hand.").

Yahari: Valley of Doom - Controller ability activation cost up to 4SE (from 3SE).

Clarification on Eternal Troll:

This is basically a weaker form of just making it unique, since we identified the usage of multiples as the problem with it.

1) If you only ever had 1 Eternal Troll out at a time, it behaves exactly the same as before.

2) If you have 1 or more Eternal Trolls out at the start of the turn and you summon another one that turn, then none of them will be able to be revived because a friendly Eternal Troll has entered play this turn.

3) If you have 2 or more Eternal Trolls out at the start of the turn, and one is killed during the turn, then that one will be revived. After that, the other(s) won't be because a friendly Eternal Troll has already entered play this turn.

4) If multiple friendly Eternal Trolls are killed "at the same time" (e.g. Tidal Wave), then the first in SRO will be revived, but the rest will go to the graveyard.

Could you give an example of the change of the Eternal Troll, I'm not sure I follow completely :). Thanks

Example: You have two Trolls on the board. I kill the 1st troll, it comes back to play. I then kill the 2nd troll, it stays in the graveyard and the same goes for the other one. So instead of having to kill the two trolls 4 times, you'll only have to kill them thrice.

You got it! I added a clarification to post 2 while you were replying!

Bloodfang: A welcomed buff, time will tell if it's enough to bring back the big bad wolf into the game.

Embers: Exactly the kind of fix I supported, away with the recursive ability.

Sabreen: It's still Sabreen, some will like it and others will say it wasn't enough. I don't mind.

Towering Brute: From a beast into a tool (shadow needed something anti haste with all the zalshards around).

Eternal Troll: Fixes the "too many on board" problem.

Aldmor Sentry: Another tool against the zalshards and more. Good buff, I'm sure more sentrys will be seen now.

Ancient of Aldmor: Fair enough.

Groundshift: Ouch! Not sure about this one... if our own allies are gonna suffer then the 1HP sustain should have gone too.

Shadow Cannon: Who knows? Still needs a solid deck that works with it.

Lorhon: No idea if it's good or bad, time will tell.

Sosilo: Meh

Garina: Meh

Irum: Gives some strenght to the location, welcomed buff.

Racksul: Now with only half the value might cripple some exile decks.. not sure it was the right move because any narrowing of the type of decks/strategies isn't good.

Yahari: Still a good board wiper even if a bit more expensive.

What is the point of releasing LL when all the cards are nerfed and get no use at all? Also, why do you ask for our opinions when they are disregarded? Vast majority said the troll is ok, and now it is nerfed for no reason. Thanks for making Sosilo T4, to bad you killed it with 3.12 nerf.

Which monster with claw did you have in mind when changing bloodfang's ability? Not that I complain, at least it is something, but with the current pool what can I get for 5 SE that has an immediate impact on board? Ogloth? No. Brakkong? nah. So, unless an ally with claw attack enters with the next set with either haste or an ablity similar to furrior terror or forgotten horror, this buff will not help him at all.

Why the change in Racksul: Warped Desert ? It was mediocre at best, since its secondary abillity is quite powerful, benefiting the opponent more most of the times.

Embers of the just got a major hit. Maybe to answer my previous question, there would be an option to maybe get an embers with racksul and Wizent's Prayer but not anymore. At least jericho will have some more flavor now and unfortunately go down on the tier list. Unless he gets a way to get his hands on the graveyard.

Rest of the changes are interesting.

Finally Less destruction in card then my imagination thanx gondo but just wana say pls dont nerf sabreen again bc people not gonna like her after nerf too

I think sabreen is still too strong, especially in the hands of garth

I like the change to eternal troll. Its an interesting alternative to simply makes it unique. Well thought

After reading Preview for balance changes for 3.13 again and again lol ... i think this is fair enough.

Sabreen is still a solid ally. A little buff to bloodfang is also nice, it gives more possibilities to build a deck, other than wulven.

Was surprised to see that troll also got nerfed. I was under the impression that alot/most people thought it was balanced :).

Nerd approved. And there was just as many bufffs as nerfs. Good balance change. I like. And good job on troll. I think that makes everyone happy.

I am ok with most of the changes.
But I am so disappointed about the Racksul nerf. It was such an interesting location and definitely not OP, undercosted or NPE. So I don't see any reason to restrict it so heavily. Poor Praxul and I was planning to post my deck soon :(

The two locations with a -1 casting Turn, I don't think will have any effect on making them more playable imo but let's see.

Troll change is interesting and time will tell if it is over nerf.

Embers seems too harsh nerf. You can use it only once and it becomes highly unreliable. I don't get why the suggestion of making it target only allies hasn't been implemented. It restricts the solo NPE build and keeps Allied Jerry as strong as he was. Having "unlimited" ally removal would be acceptable imo. Let's see if it sees any play from now on.

Bloodfang looks great, giving him options apart from Wulven builds. I don't know how viable is now, but it will definitely be good in the future :)

Interesting and well thought out changes, even if I disagree with some.

Best is that Embers is no longer the recursive beast it was.

Sabreen was a fair nerf and she is still a good ally.

Cannon: The same trash as always. Take a look on the mail that i sent u about this card. I think it will be mutch better

Groundshift, unliked.... If for all allies, cut sustain.

Embers: NICE! All cry babies won...... Damn, is too mutch easy defeat an embers jerry, u just to need to think a little bit. I chalenge anyone, make a deck before nerf, i can easy beat any ember jerry even with a rothen......

Sugestions: take a look on my sugestions about others trash cards gondo, moment of acquiescence and cannon in special.

take a look on LOGAN, RAIKKA, TER ADUN, DARK CLAW too, and that land for ability...

It's just awful. I'm afraid I'll just stop playing after 3.13 hits..or at least take a break.
Thank you for trying to help Bloodfang. There is currently nothing better than two Wulven fatties that are worth using ability on, but I hope some big claw guys are introduced in the next parts of LL
Can't say much about Aldmor changes, but the rest of the changes is horrible.
Racksul, Groudshift, Embers...R.I.P.
Sabreen as strong as before, still killing a 8 hp ally in one go with Garth.
"Buffs" to Garina and Sosilo aren't buffs at all, just a joke.
Lorhorn and Irum are still not worth putting in a deck.
Not sure about Eternal Troll yet, sounds interesting, but this definitely will decrease its usage.
Yahari...well, at least the option to just "delete" it did't get enough votes in the poll...

Besides of Jerry´s playability now, which really doesn´t matter as the card pool constantly changes and increases, Embers was definitely overnerfed. Now you have a card that ablazes an ally for 2cc, or that ablazes, makes 4 damage and becomes a cantrip for 2cc and 4SE if your use Jerry´s ability, or 6cc if you use Sever Ties. The -1SE and +3 health is a matter that comes from Lingering Essence, not this card, and also has it´s additional cost.
Now if you compare it to fireball, it´s costing you 3 more resources (or SE if you put them on the same level) only to get an additional ablazed ally and a single draw. That´s not worth for Jerry to use, specially thinking that you´re sacrificing his ability for that single 4 damage shot.
This card will need a future buff, like gaining more draw at its destruction, gaining draw even if it´s not destroyed by you (like Hunter´s Gambit), or even gaining 2-3SE at its destruction instead of the draw, so Jerry doesn´t lose his main ability and purpose. That will also make it even playable for other priests with the use of Sever Ties, Eriss and any other future abilities.

Besides of all this, I completely agree in not returning it to the hand for infinite recursion. That is the NPE part of the card.

I find the troll change hard to parse ... Takes a lot of work to figure out what's going on / going to happen when I kill it. I presume there's no indicator of whether he's undying?

(Also, undying might be good here - "when troll is killed with less than 3 attack, he returns to play with +1 attack")

Does Groundshift now removes "disabled" from the friendly allies. Is "disabled" passive, I would say it is?

I didn't see this change coming. I'll have to give some thought on what this could be used for exactly, but overall I feel its a great change that really opens up the hero quite a bit.

I'll have to play around with it. At the very least the NPE aspect should dissipate, but I'm not sold on it being the appropriate change quite yet.

Interesting, another haste interaction, although less effective. Not happy to see defender removed, but it was so conditional it doesn't really matter. Still hope we see some defender in part 2 or 3.

Good change, allows the player to keep the train going without being punished so harshly for building their deck around it.

Normally I'd be the first against needing context on why particular cards are changed, but I really can't fathom a reason to change this card to this, the only thing I can think of is the recursive Mimic causing problems down the line. If that's the case, then the problem is more with Mimic, which is a SF card anyways and is still open to change. The NC ability was already really good and the effect seemed manageable enough. It's a fun effect and I'm sad to see it changed to this. Now I'd be relying on my opponent to have something worthwhile to nab rather than my own deck, and that feels like a bad direction to go with the card.

It could just be my bias towards really liking the card, but I really don't understand why the change was made and feel its a bit unwarranted.

Still hoping that Void Wretch will be looked at in future patches. Especially since everything around him seems to keep taking hits.

Other than that and Warped Desert, I feel this is an interesting set of changes and I'm looking forward to trying them out. Bloodfang in particular.

I think you mean Arthyle's Crypt.

The issue is much wider than that though. We turned exiling, which is something that can be used to help with balance - to take something out of the game completely offensively or as a cost to yourself - into a way to recycle things. That's really bad for balance. This card opens up a door to recycle all kinds of stuff and limits what exiling of your own stuff we can do in the future as a cost.

With it now only working on enemy stuff, you can't build around exploiting this card to break the game. You can use it to steal an ally that Logan killed with Sledgehammer or a card that Loest exiled or turn Rotling into a Shadow Knight that can pick from either grave, etc, etc.

The NC for warped desert is still the same. Raksul beyond a shadowbof a doubt in my mind is a dead card after this nerf. I strongly urge anybody to prove me wrong, and show me with several in game battles that this is still a good card, but I'm willing to bet shadow crystals on it that you cant get 5 wins in a row with the new racksul.

All the other changes are good though. In regards to sosillo, since some have said the change wont matter, i will say the change matters a lot. T4 is when most cards want to start discarding, I.E. sabreen or bannerman. Trying to do so previously would deplete your hand at an immensely fast pace, but now that turn 4 discard is meaningful. Pesonally my favorite discarding card is moment of acquiesce, and i hated not being able to use it properly until turn 5, when it was often too late. This gives a definitive buff to the location that can make it playable even with that soul sucking NC. (it's personally the most punishing thing to me, having cards discarded from hand.)

Hmm I see. Well thanks for the explanation. I guess its a pretty good point, still disappointed, but at least I get it now.

i will say this. ancient of aldmor, really? you took the best thing about it, that your opponent had to really think about whether using his hero ability was worth it or not. finally a card that somewhat evens the field on hero ability disparity and you... turn it around on your own hero. whatever.

Well, ogloth is pretty good if you are going to do a turn of trading

I support all the changes EXCEPT the warped desert mega debuff. Wow! Killed one of the funnest cards in the game. :(
I read the messages above and do see what you guys were worried about. Gravemonger, into the forest, and crypt do make a pretty strong argument. However, because some 4 card combo exists that means game over.. Is that really a good reason to nerf the card? I'd argue anytime you put together a 4 card combo it should mean game over or at the very least it should be close to gg bro. This particular 4 card combo is defeated by paying 0 and putting out a location... Disabling the Gravemonger...exiling any of the cards... Using item destruction on the crypt....I can go on. Seems a little much to destroy a really well designed card.

You mean to tell me there are opponets out there that can't deal with a 4 card combo that consists of an item, a creature, a location, and an Attatchment? WHAT EXACTLY ARE THEY PUTTING INTO THEIR DECKS?!? Well at least I now have something worthy of signaturing

yes and thats all warped desert was, was fun. wasnt competitive at all, just a fun card. hard to play and win with the opposing ability. i find that one so sadly funny. the opposing side is way more powerful than the controller's side and the controller's side gets nerfed.

See that's the part that kills me the most on it. It was balanced. For effort I can get one card I want a turn. Without effort, just a minor cost you could get two cards every other turn. The kicker part is now they can draw from their deck and mine, but I can only get from them? That's fair...

good changes especially the anti haste allies. i hope to see more of them because haste shard zaladar is more npe than embers jericho. im glad ancient of aldmor was changed because it was getting close to the 3cc 99/99 i was talking about basicly a cheap ally with huge stats. sorry to see embers go but hopefully jericho can get more offensive attachments to use his se on in the future. one idea is to make zails hymn shuffle into your deck so jericho can reuse it.

sabreen should have a stat reduction as well. racksul change was good because some combos were npe. now it cant be used for a specific strategy but more like a cheap draw if you have a deck with many exiles. i think the enemy ability should be nerfed too or no one will play it. the buff to garina may make it more playable because early fatties was one of the main problems with the card. even with the enemy ability they might have difficulties dealing with many fatties early in the game.

all the people who keep crying over changes without bringing anything useful to the discussion should just quit and leave. im sure this community is better without theyre toxic attitude and no help posts. bye felicia.

Wow, it took you 3 years to fix cards like Embers or Bloodfang... I can't imagine how long we will have to wait for a decent Lost Lands set, since most of upcoming changes make no sense at all.

Bloodfang - good. Opens up future design space for him (though as of today Riphide is probably still the best synergy for his ability)

Embers of the Just - I agree with removing the recursion; the entire deck will no longer be build around 1 card. Let's test but I think you could even add +1 fire damage (as well as the ablaze effect and card draw) when u attach it to an ally.


LOST LANDS

Sabreen - Ok

Towering Brute - Don't really have an opinion, ok I guess.

Eternal Troll - I'd rather it was left as it was.

Aldmor Sentry - Can u leave in the 'defender'?

Ancient of Aldmor - I didn't see this coming, I was quite happy with him as he was to be honest. I had a really good game where my opponent had 2 of these out and I let my SE build up from 5 to 9 SE and crippled them both. I guess we'll see.

Groundshift - Again didn't see the need, but maybe if u guys release some more overstated allies with downside (eg brutal Minotaur) then there could be stuff for players to mess around with.

Shadow Cannon - welcome.

Racksul: Warped Desert - I get why u did it. Stuff like Gwen being able to have 8 ITF can potentially break things so probably right to shut it down now even if it means there was some 'collateral damage' to other non-broken strategies.

Other locations - some steps in the right direction but I think there is probably more to do.

I agree with most nerfs/buffs. Really I cannot understand the nerf to groundshift. Who will play a card that evens the field and damages your hero ? I agree that sysiphos won a world championship with a card that does the same and damages both... I can see an use very limited now.
