I recently bought a $1.99 and $9.99 packs of Shadow Crystals. I bought 13 Dark Prophecies booster packs (digital ) in hoping of some cool rare cards and a few foils(: However, out of the 13 packs i didn't get a single foil. If the chances of receiving a foil in a booster is 1/5 i should have gotten 2 foils but i didn't even get 1 (which i was expecting). Is there a way or a number of times you need to buy boosters to get a foil or is it completely random?
Oh the irony, im on the test server to hopefully get a foil to make me feel a bit better only to find the first booster I open I get a Serena as my hero and a foil frostmire..
It's random, just because you have a 1/5 chance of getting a foil (20%), doesn't really mean it will be successful the 5th time if the other 4 were not. That is quite unfortunate luck for you though. :(
I pulled 5 foils in a row one time. 2 of them were Death Collectors.

It's like each pack individually has a 1 in 5 chance, not that there are actually guaranteed to be 1 foil in every 5 packs. Not sure how this might work diffeerently for like the physical card booster boxes, where they could technically have ways of putting a certain amount of foils in each box I guess (as in Yu-Gi-Oh! booster boxes you generally get a certain number of each rarity per box).
And just like whoisSAVAGE I might be somewhat guilty of stealing some foils, lol. I got I think 10 foils in 19 packs once (about a 1 in 2 ratio).
Hope that explanation actually makes sense. I had it in my mind, but hard for me to type it out all phrased correctly.
Last time I bought SC I opened like 9 packs and got 4 foils: Baduruu, Darkclaw, Beetle Demon Bow and Berserker's Edge. Well I got lucky, since the other time I got Gwenneth and Logan opening 4 packs.
If you think about it, the odds of NOT getting a foil are 80%. 0.8^13 is a little under 0.055, so there is approximately a 5.5% chance of getting no foils in 13 packs.
It kind of sucks, because that means that out of 19 people that opened 13 packs, you were the only one to not get a foil.
If you notice on the physical booster packs, it even has a disclaimer on the back that says that although the chances of getting a foil/epic are 1 in 5, this ratio is not guaranteed to be present in any given sample of booster packs.
I drew a bunch of foils but they're all crappy cards so who cares. Who wants 3x foil wand of izicus?
Who wants 4x that freaking Scythe of Fate?

Dun be sad, I spent $19.99 for crystals and opened 27 DP boosters,
YAY, NO FOIL! Not even one! Damn! That's life.
I could understand this if I was buying physical card, because the number of foil in each box is almost fixed.
For example, 1 box contain 20 packs, 4 of them have a foil in it.
So, if I buy a box, I should have 4 foils as expected.
If I buy the packs 1 by 1, there is a chance that the packs which contain foil are sold already.
So if I buy 16 packs separately, I have a chance that I can't get any foil.
But for digital boosters, every time you open a pack, you enter the lucky draw,
that's why somebody can get 4 foils in a row.
and somebody like me get no foils for 27 times in a row. That's pretty sick......
I think Wulven could add a "Buy a box" function,
so that we can get a fixed number of foils for the money spent.
Like a box contain 20 packs, 3 foils, no less no more, sold for 2000 Crystals.
(The ratio should be sightly smaller than buying separate pack)
So that we can choose from either "Trying with luck" or "Paying for that".
Yes, that would be great. Or simply they could put the foils in a different section with a certain price (like 700 SC, for example). I myself wouldn't mind spending like 500 SC in a foil I wanted. I want Eladwen and Gwenneth from the old hero's art. I think they're prettier. I got Gwenneth from the new art and I think it's too shiny. So I'd pay like $ 6,00 for itQuote:

If they do (but normally they won't), the price should be set high enough to maintain the rareness of foils.
When foils could be seen everywhere, they won't be that shiny and attractive anymore.
For the DP foils are too shiny issue, they will fix the masking of the foils in future.
Also, the new feature - foils exchanging is coming...I dun know when it arrived, but it's coming.
This would make things a bit better.

@ op: You don't understand statistics. For EACH PACK, you have a 20% chance of getting one. The chance of getting a foil will ultimately increase with each purchase of a pack as each pack is a chance to win. NEVER will a 1 in 5 chance on anything be a guarantee. Think about it. If you play the lotto ten time and 1 in ten is a winner, that doesn't mean you win, it means you had a chance to win and you kept playing.
I'm not saying the true % is 20, but you are not guaranteed anything by buying a bunch.
