1) Play a game in browser
2) Close the window if you don't like your hand/go second/are losing
3) ???
4) Profit (with fake rating)
Can anyone reproduce?
Sigh.
Are we gonna get legit ratings at some point? =/

do you know what u have released!
Reproduced
There goes those first turn win % I was hoping for...
Had three people do this in the last hour.
Least it'll get patched quickly, please?
And of course now that everyone knows how to do it... :p
Oh well, for all its glory, SE is still fundamentally in the beta stages, even though it technically isn't, anymore. We're all playtesting it for the final version, don't you know? We're the biggest troubleshooting team the devs could ever hope for.
Wow, no wonder. I started a couple of days ago and decide to try PVP for some matches today of about 7 matches I won 5, 4 of which were dropped by the opponent and lost 2 on some fun matches, so I guess I’m not really as good as I though I was that would make people run away from me. xD
This should be fixed as soon as possible, those dropped matches were frustrating for someone that is looking for some serious PVP.
@arebelspy I have no idea why you would post something like this publically. What you do is you send Kyle and PM a with major exploits like this, he'll have it fixed for the next update.
"People call for it to be fixed"? Because if people don't do so, Kyle won't fix a major exploit? Let me correct you on that as I've reported a similarly major exploit, by sending him a PM, for reading an opponent's hand and Kyle had it fixed by the next update, v1.24. And I cannot get why you would justify mass exploitation being better than limited exploitation.
The part you quoted explained why I posted it.
I think his point was, Kyle would still know about it and fix it if you PMed him, and only a few would know about it and exploit it. By announcing it, now everyone knows and more people can exploit it, and but it's not like Kyle can fix it any faster.
If you were only trying to let the masses know about an exploit causing them to lose games, you could have just said, "There's a new exploit" rather than explaining how to do the exploit.
I'd rather it's equal for everyone than a few people take advantage of a loophole.
If only a few people discovered right after 1.24 that any hero could equip any armor/weapon, should it stay a secret to be fixed in the next patch (a month, based on the last one?) or should everyone have the opportunity to take advantage of it equally? The more fair option, imo, is the latter, even if less desirable.
Plus I wanted confirmation that it worked.
If anyone wants to PM Kyle about it, feel free.
From his comment in another thread (just today, AFTER this thread was posted), he still thinks quitters will go down in rating and you won't have to play them anymore.
I intentionally held off on doing rating reductions on server-instigated losses after a timeout, as opposed to manually quitting, as there have been numerous reports of connection problems. But the code is there on the server ready to go if people think this is an issue.
Posting bugs or exploits in the forums is fine, it gives me a sense how important an issue is to the players...
How did the bug that let you see your opponents hand work? Fixed now so no harm in sharing.
Pete
Cool, glad to know a fix can be implemented quickly if desired.
IMO, there should be a rating loss after timeout.
Like, bummer if you lose some rating cause you get a call on your iPhone in the middle of a game (which you could ignore), but you are quitting that game.
And if there is no rating loss, you still have a bunch of people quitting because they don't go first, get a bad hand, are losing, etc.
Without quit = rating loss, rankings mean nothing.
Go ahead and do it Kyle. Any kind of loss, leave, regardless of how or why it happens, should count as a loss for you and a win for your opponent, wi rating gains and losses appropriately. A system that can't be games is much more important than one that tries to compensate for crashes etc.
And I say this as someone who just lost connection twice whilst playing on the train. I didn't lose rating for either game and I should have, playing on shoddy wifi is my choice and opponents shouldn't be penalised for that.
And just to be clear - rating loss on quit isn't enough - the other person should gain rati too, which doesn't happen currently. A quit should function exactly as if one y won and one guy lost.
Defenetely agree with Calmdown, quitting should be penalized hardly. And it doesn't matter what reasons lay behind. Only this way makes sense of the whole rating system.
Since this read was posted, every si gle one of my opponents has quit when losing.
If you say it's ok for people to post exploits in the forum, Kyle (most games ban this for this exact reason, btw) then please make good on fixing it immediately!
I completely agree. I play on my iPhone, (so sometimes get a call, or as I am in Tokyo, get a quake warning that I feel I better check) but I agree, abandoning for whatever reason is the same as quitting. Unfortunately if there is a way round losing points "people" will exploit it.
For the love of god put this fix live.
Between Internet dying (admittedly my own fault) and quitters every time I get board control, I haven't finished a game in about 3.5 hours. It's like banging your head on a brick wall.
+1 for making disconnect = loss. How bout just turn it on for a probationary period. If the forms are flooded with complaints, turn it off again.
I agree that it would be good to factor ratings when someone quits or disconnects. But I agree that if there are issues on the game servers we should wait until the servers are reliable.
I agree and disagree... Ratings should definitly be lost but maybe in a slightly more fair way. For example maybe a program can be worked in where it recognizes a phone call is coming through or the sort (timed out 1 game cause of this) And although i usually agree with u arebelspy here i do not, im a doctor and i enjoy this game in those couple of free mins i got here and there and have nothing else to do but sometimes i get important phone calls from my attending which i MUST answer.
And maybe to make it more fair immediate quits or timeouts take the most rating off as oppose to later game quits, let it work on a sliding scale in my opinion. But let that sliding scale only come into effect once the match IS long enough to gain exp and gold... Just my thoughts :)
And to top it off i agree with arebelspy's broadcast on how to save ratings, everyone should be playin on the same leveled field...No advantages for anyone.
While in ur situation AnAdolt it would have ruined the game, here it just toys with the mechanics of ratings....
It would be nice if the server tracked how long people are waiting to act. Now that they see a timer, griefing has gotten a lot easier.
i'd like to see a timer for my opponents too (i.e. how long they have to go). sometimes i'm sitting wondering if the connection is on my end or if they're stalling or thinking or what.
I think you do see a timer. I was in a game where the opponent was taking a while. Then the timer appeared. Only happened once or twice though so I don't know if it's consistent.
i thought that timer was on you. when it shows the wireless icon with a slash and a counting down timer that's them then?
I don't think so. Whenever I got that timer, it was always on my turn (because I took some time to make a move) and it alternated between the wireless icon and the zzzz.
I see that when I'm taking too long to play but it was my opponent's turn when I saw that before so I assumed that was their countdown. And it did disappear after he did something.
Obviously, the wireless icon with a slash through it means that you don't have internet, while the zzzz means you are taking too long to do a move
Well, obviously :) But what's happening is the icon appears after 30 secs (?) and it shows the wireless icon and then changes to zzz. And I really doubt it's my connection. Not that I'm immune to these issues, but this happens when I take to long to make my move. Nothing points to my Internet failing me. Unlike the others though, I've only seen it happen during my turn, so I'm thinking it's just the regular "make-your-move-already" timer, but the game can't decide what icon it wants to use...
