I just played a game against rikina and near the end of the game i used gravedigger cloak to steal a raven from him. i played the raven and on the next turn he used a retreat on her, it went back into his hand, and he played her on the same turn. this bug is very annoying and i know that it says that the bug has been fixed but apparently it has not. if anyone needs confirmation you can search my name or rikina and watch the battle.
Retreat targets an ally and returns it to its "owner's" hand. "Owner" refers to the player that originally had the card in his deck. So it has been fixed and is working fine. You were the "controller" when you played the stolen Raven, not the "owner".
well then i would suggest a change to this rule. if i came to your house and stole your television, i would be the new owner, correct ? However lawful or unlawful it might be, i wouldn't just beborrowing it from you. what is the point in spending 3 se to "borrow" an ally if you can just take it back with retreat ? does this work the same with transference ?
No, ownership will not change because it's working how it should be. In real life, when you steal something, you are not consider its owner, you only have the item in your possession. The original owner of the item still remains the owner of the item.
The point of "spending 3 Shadow Energy to borrow an ally" is because not all decks have and/or run Retreat.
Yes, it works the same way with Transference and Dimension Ripper.
Retreat is only a "counter", if I may say, for stolen allies. Your question "what is the point in spending 3 se to 'borrow' an ally if you can just take it back with retreat?" is only applicable to certain scenarios, which in this case, is a stolen ally. Gravedigger's Cloak and other cards that allows you to "steal" from the opponent allows you to steal other cards such as weapons or abilities that could be useful to you.
Oh, please don't use real world situations when explaining a game, since it's not always applicable. Say, I "cast" a Fireball on you, but you have 26 life, can you please explain how you survive in real life?

It used to work the way you want it, which was fixed.

i was thinking of it differently since with my deck i usually use retreat on my own allies (to get around crippling blow, captured prey, rabid bite, etc.) thanks for clearing it up
Yeah, the punk who filed that bug didn't write it very well. When Kyle was going to fix that bug, he was like, what the hell does this guy mean? too.
