it's a very nice deck, but i do have a question or two.

any reason you don't use tainted oracle as a draw engine?

any reason you don't have a thief engines (cloaks, or prowlers)?

No need for those mentioned, in my experiments with the deck.

The SS bow/BDB bow are relative card advantage items - most good players already know that.

By using Lily to bring them back, the card advantage is doubled. Hence Gwen can draw and 'store' cards using the using usual draw.

(PS: my own deck has 4 RF instead of 3)

EDIT: And BS does a good job of card draw for Gwen. Drawing just 1 SS will help her gain life, do ally control or kill the hero.

    Looks very effective.

I play a 40-card Gwen that has more or less the same abilities/weapons but it has a definite go-for-the-throat style as compared to solid board control. The main differences between mine are 4 Into the Forest, for durability protection, and Kristoffers, to top off BDB/SS survivors and provide nice ping damage (especially with Aldon in play).

Love, love, love Bad Santa for Gwen.

One note, and I am always semi-surprised this isn't mentioned more often: on your own allies, those Retreat! you correctly included are the only non-Jericho/Healing Touch form of attachment removal available. I find mid-game around T6+ that having the option of picking up and replaying a Transformed BDB rather than leaving it CB'd to be highly effective at only 2cc.

I rarely use Retreat on an enemy ally drop, just as you warned, unless I know it will give me enough time to gain BC or other major gain, so instead I save them to use as described above and in many other tricksy ways. With Gwen that would be primarily recovering a Lily, saving crippled/burning/poisoned/almost dead allies, and being able to keep replaying the same BDB over and over. If Kris was included, an Aldon on the board turns Kris into a little 2/1 monster, that can Retreated and recast with the same damage efficiency as a Fireball, if not the same targeting flexibility. My personal best multiple Retreat/Kris play was 16 damage with a single Kris on T9 using Zhanna (Aldon+KP) but I've been attempting to better it since (War Banner, or DR'd Bloodlust with Boris/Amber, might do the trick).

    Cheers,

    Good question!

Yes, retreat is a very nice card to reset your own allies. The problem with this is: it causes usually a negative tempo shift. I've included 4 ravens just for this reason. It's better to play: retreat opponent's ally and play a new raven than retreat your own Raven and recast it. Usually you will not have the time to do these kind of maneuvers. Most of the time it's just better to play another strong all and retreat something of the opponent for board control.

Good question though! I'll add that use of retreat to the original post, even though it's quite a rare use in this deck.

Please note: if I ONLY have retreat in hand and nothing else to cast and enough resources to replay an ally during the same turn, I will use it. It's just.. It doesn't happen often that all these conditions are met.

The original deck was with 4x Tainted Oracle, and 2x Bad Santa. I found that almost always I rather saw the Bad Santa coming than the tainted oracles, because really, there is only one good moment to play it, and that's at turn 4 when you have drawn no Beetle Bow.

In general late game you really don't need it. Usually the card gives only a +1 card advantage, and 4 resources to cost is really not worth it. Since I have high cost/effective cards in the deck, Bad Santa usually gives a better advantage.
