Firstly, a BIG THANK YOU to several people.
1. Sisyphos - My finalist opponent. Hats off to you. Extremely sharp and a excellent deck-builder. No mistakes at all during our Best of Five. GG, buddy.
2. GDC - for doing such a fantastic job at organising the Tournament. Not forgetting your continued efforts at Ladder/Leagues. You need to be in some Hall of Fame!
3. Blanketeffect - This deck is technically a tweak of his "Perfect Machine" deck. (It's not here at the SE forums). Kudos to you. I wouldn't have won without your deck.
4. A1 Alliance brothers - For all those tips, motivations, play-testing. I owe you, guys! (You know who you are, so thank you!)
5. Atomzed - my fellow countryman who played a Banebow deck to help me spot weaknesses in my deck as part of my warm-up. Thanks, bro.
6. To all my fans and well-wishers - thank you for your support!
Ok, Sorry, folks.
I am not going to post my deck here. A personal choice, I hope you guys respect that.
(It's posted at you-know-where forum.)
I do encourage everyone to come up with your own deck.
But I'll do the next best thing - a sneak peek. And I am sure, if you are really interested in my deck, just watch my games and you can reverse engineer my deck.
Before I start, I just wanna highlight 1 very important aspect of good deck building.
1. All great decks have really unexpected cards or unexpected quantity of those cards.
Examples:
- Sisyphos's Tournament deck - http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....l=1#post101046
- Benumb's championship winning deck. (He's the World champion, for people who just joined SE) http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....ll=1#post64882
- LD's deck. (LD is the World's Runner-up.) - http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....ll=1#post64882
(To a lesser extent, yes, it applies for my deck too.)
The short history
I came up with a deck called "Hyper-Amber" shortly when 1.27 arrived. It's at A1.
Blanketeffect modified it and it became better, switching out Amber in favor of Boris.
Blanket and I played a few games. He won.
We discussed. We had a few different views on several cards. We agreed on what's good and working.
Ultimately, he ended up with his own version, while I choose to go with my version. That was a great moment.
Because what we discussed within the 20 mins was so powerful that we did not tweak anymore from there on, and we brought our versions to the tourney.
The deck
It has 4 Aeons.
Much like Benumb's and LD's deck.
So the next time I hear someone say 4 Aeons is too much, I will smash your head against the wall. (Just joking!)
It depends on the deck.
Take a look at Sisyphos's deck. 4 PB and 4 SK?!?!
Same concept.
All great decks have really unexpected cards or unexpected quantity of those cards.
The weird/unique decks win. So go build a unique deck or use a seldom-used hero.
Another example:
The Worlds - Top 26 - 40 cards. (1.25)
13 Majiya
4 Jericho (Benumb)
2 Gravebone (Killtrend)
2 Amber
1 Gwen
1 Zaladar
1 Zhanna (Lyingdragon)
1 Eldawen
1 Elementalis
Note that LD became 1st Runner-up.
So there you have it!
This Tournament is done, and I am ready for the next Challenge!
For inspiring players, I would suggest joining the Sept/Oct League matches organized by GDC.
