History of Card Abilities and Basic Game Rules of Shadow Era

Since the first live server launch, Shadow Era has gone through some alterations in its gameplay (card effects, card abilities, rules, etc.).

Based on my experience, getting familiar with the history really helps getting a grasp of what the other players are talking about and understand how the game is played.

Here are a few things that might help new players understand the game. (It may not be a complete guide, but I hope it gives you some kind of simple reference for beginners.)

    Edited to 1.27

    Key Terms in Battle

Here are some terms used in battles in effect of certain cards or abilities that are possibly not yet explained in FAQ (senior members, please CMIIW):
    - Exhausted An exhausted ally or hero cannot attack or activate its ability (Assassination). Allies come in to play exhausted and will be readied on the next turn. More details on that here.
    - Stealth An ally or hero with stealth cannot be attacked (Erika Shadowhunter, Nightshade)
    - Ambush An ally's attack with ambush cannot be defended (Dirk Saber, Nightshade)
    - Stoned A stoned ally cannot defend when attacked (Medusil's ability)
    - Frozen A frozen ally or hero cannot attack or defend noractivate its ability (Freeze, Voice of Winter, Snow Sapphire)
    - Webbed A webbed ally cannot attack or defend nor activate its ability (Clinging Web)
    - Netted A netted ally is exhausted (Net Trap)
    - Stoneskin Damage to hero or ally is reduced by 1 (Infernal Gargoyle)
    - Poisoned A poisoned ally or hero receives 1 damage each turn (Sorcerous Poison, Poison Gas)
    - Set on Fire An ally or hero set on fire receives 1 damage each turn (Engulfing Flames, Wrath of Summer)

There are certain abilities that are self explanatory. I have only mentioned conditions that possibly have no explanation on the cards.
    Change of Effects

    Protector
    - prior to 1.26 "enemies cannot attack your other allies or heroes"
    - 1.26 "allies without protector cannot be targeted"
    Change of Card Abilities

As mentioned in my intro, there have been many changes to card abilities/description. I have done some research (I mostly googled ) and could not get any further than 1.23.

I got the descriptions from shadowerawiki.com and assumed that it was still 1.23 since the abilities had a major difference from 1.24 where hero abilities had some significant changes based on Kyle's Change Log (see below).

So, I will use the descriptions from the wiki as a base to describe the changes made to the cards' abilities. And also, I will only be listing cards that have been changed. Unchanged cards will be left out of the list and the most recent update is still used in 1.27.

    Here goes..

    Change of Card Abilities (Continued)

    Armors (CC/Dur./Def./Desc.)
Armors did not exist until 1.24. I'll use 1.24 as a base for change.

    Wrath of the Forest
    - 1.24 6/5/1/When a friendly ally dies, draw a card.
    - 1.25 4/4/1/When a friendly ally dies, draw a card.
    Weapons (CC/Atk./Dur./Desc.)
Weapons did not exist until 1.24 (exept What Big Teeth - Wulven Weapon) and has no changes up to 1.26

Besides these cards, a few cards, including heroes, will change again
. I will not update them in this post until the changes actually take place.
But you can see the complete list of possible changes posted by Kyle, here:
    - Hero changes
    - Card changes

The new cards released in 1.27

    Upcoming new cards in 1.28

Most of the changes mentioned above were compiled from Kyle's complete change log. I made a summary hoping to ease the readers.

    Complete Change Logs

You can view Kyle's complete change logs of the game (bug fixes, new features) here:
    - Beta Version
    - 1.21
    - 1.22
    - 1.23
    - 1.24
    - 1.25
    - 1.26
    - 1.27

btw, Kyle is the administrator and the creator of this game.
There is also a list of bugs, but I wont get in to that becaus I think bugs are not that important to know prior to playing unless you wanto to exploit them.

To see the complete list of 1.27 bugs, please see here.

Well, I hope this helps new players in understanding this great game. I will keep it updated as oftenly as possible.

    thx

You might want to explain what exhaust means... Bec net trap, unlike web, cause allies to be exhausted.and exhausted allies can still defend.

A few mistakes in there though:

    1.25 lowered Jasmine's ability cost from 3 to 2.

    Curse costs 3 now.

Mind Control originally took over the ally and exhaust it and was altered to take it over with haste, but only for 2 turns before the final incarnation was released. The last change also made it so that mind controlled ally no longer got buffed by shard of power, though I'm not sure if that was intentional.

Before 1.25 Wrath of the Forest used to be a 6 cost, 4 duration and 1 defense armor and was only tested for a short period of time as a 4/4/0 before it became a 4/4/1.
