Introduction
With the likes of supertrolls hanging around the forum, and my recent slurry of strategy pieces that I hope you have become familiar with (please read, see my sig), I thought it would be nice to have a little article on how to write troll-proof OPs. So far, most of my threads have not been trolled, so it seems I can get it right more often than not
What is trolling
To successfully write a troll-proof thread the first thing to know is, what is the point and purpose of trolling?
I laid these questions before an expert in the field:
The purpose:
[19:43] <SUPER_GS693> I don't get off from making people feel down, I get off derailing threads
[19:43] <SUPER_GS693> In any way possible
[19:43] <SUPER_GS693>
and the point:
[19:52] <GS693> Idk, for me it's generally being stupid. I mean, can you imagine a 60+ year old acting like this in real life?
So, Supertrolls troll for the heck of trolling, and the point is to derail a thread rather than to make people feel bad of themselves. Contrary to popular belief, trolls thus appear to be quite gentle creatures. This notion is supported by the fact that I walked out of the interview alive, and with both hands still attached.
GS693 had the following to add though:
[19:56] <GS693> Still though he-man
[19:56] <GS693> N3rd gets off of putting people down, giskard just like being abrasive
[19:56] <GS693> Each troll is different
[19:57] <GS693> ... I try to make people chuckle
[19:57] <GS693> If that doesn't work, at least I laughed
So, how do I write a troll-proof OP for my thread?
Writing a troll-proof OP for your next thread is done by following my simple but proven, two-step troll-proof OP writing planTM. The first step is to simply write your post. The second step is to check for these two things: 1- the OP has to be useful and of good quality, 2- you should not give any easy openings for trolling.
Both these points are supported by insights into troll psychology.
1:
<GS693> Make sure its trollable damn it, I can't troll useful threads
and 2:
[19:48] <He-Man> ok ssshhh i am writing now
[19:48] <He-Man> don't disturb the master
[19:48] <GS693> He-man
[19:48] <GS693> He-man
[19:48] <GS693> He-man
[19:48] * He-Man sighs
[19:48] * GS693 grins
[19:49] <He-Man> ok, so that will go straight into my thread as an example
[19:49] * GS693 fits a halo on top of his head
See what happened there? I gave an opening for trolling, and lo and behold, I was trolled.
Conclusion
I hope these insights will help everyone here on the forum. As always, please leave any (nice) comments or questions!
Did I already mention you should read ALL of my strategy pieces?
EDIT: I wrongly cited GS693's age as 25; it is actually 60--updated
