If you want mage, buy mage decks. Majiya is the hero of the moment. Easiest/cheapest way to build your deck up is 2 human, and 2 shadow mage decks. You then have all common mage specific cards, and enough allies to run either. Sell all cards you have more than 4 of, and then buy the rare/epics you want.

For the cheap way with 100 crystals. Buy Majiya, sell cards you don't want, buy ones you do. Check out This link to earn some free crystals too.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you'd be better off buying starter packs and selling any other cards you won't use for profit. Since you're a mage, you might want to buy a mage starter pack then. Here's a more or less accurate amount of each starter packs compiled by MattOG.

In any case, there are a couple of ways you can earn crystals easily:

Honestly, the best way to make a competitive deck is to spend 5 dollars. Buy one starter pack and 4 boosters and merchant the cards you don't need to get duplicates of essential cards.

I heard the 5.. hundred dollar route is better.

Don't ask me where I heard that.

No, Kyle didn't tell me to say that.

He threatened me to say that, instead.

@AnAdolt - the five dollar route leads to the five hundred dollar route.

lol well now that I have the linux wine firefox unity player conspiracy figured out, and can play on my laptop finally, perhaps I will put in the hours, rather than the dollars.. playing only on your iphone is a great way to advertise for reading glasses lol

I think the $500 route leads to N3rd Avenue.
