Im not complaining that I'm being matched up against players with a lower rating than mine. I know thats highly likely.

The "complaint" was that even though i won 3 games in a row, my rating stayed exactly the same. And then when I had to quit a game early because I got a call on the phone I was playing the game on, I lost 4 points. So I went 3-0 and gained 0, lost 1 and lost 4

I agree that 150 up or down is probably too large a gap, now that the rating spread is only up to 350 or so. One way to do it would be to increase the rating gap search every 5 seconds or so...if a player within 30 rating isn't found in 5 secs, increase the search to within 50 rating, and so on, until a match is made.

50-100 would work. but less than 50 would be ideal

ok so on test server i was ranked 217 and lost to a 214 ranked player (sup stunnah). I became ranked 213 and he became 216. So he gained 2 ranks and I lost 4. How should I be dropped below the rank of the person I lost to?
Its a rhetorical question, but honestly, why have rank if it can change so quickly. The randomness of ranking and the clear benefit of being first are two things that really frustrate me.

I think shannong's link explains that this isn't a ranking system as much as it is a rating system.
