    Wildcard Qualifiers 2020

    Wildcard #1
    Saturday 12th December
    Starts 12pm GMT0

    Wildcard #2
    Sunday 20th December
    Starts 3pm GMT0

Wildcard qualifiers offer players the opportunity to earn a place at the World Championship 2020/21. We already have a number of players qualified through events that have taken place throughout the year. This event is a unique opportunity and offers players to qualify in a single day, the only events this year that allow this. See above for the date and time of each event.

    (Entry Fee: 500 SC)

    Deadlines for sign up
    Wildcard #1 - Saturday 12th December 11am GMT0
Wildcard #2 - Sunday 20th December 2pm GMT0 (Sign ups open at the completion of Wildcard#1)

    Tournament Format
    - Each tournament will be a Swiss-style tournament, where each player plays in five rounds (or 6 rounds if more than 32 players) and the final placings are determined by points scored, see below for how points are calculated.
    - The player placed 1st at the end of each wildcard will earn a spot in the World Championship.
    - If there are players tied on points for the top spot, we will use a tie-breaker system as outlined at the bottom of the "How A Wildcard Swiss-Style Tournament Works" section.
    - All rounds will be played using a best-of-three format.
    - There will be no time limit in round 1. If any matches are determined to go "too long" (in the opinion of the Tournament Organisers), we will use a time limit in future rounds to keep things practical.
    - You must use one unchanged deck throughout the whole tournament ("Decklock"). Deck checks will be done based on server logs to ensure this has been adhered to.

    Taking Part
    - Wildcard qualifiers are open to everyone except those players already qualified for WC2020/21.
    - A player can sign up for both wildcard tournaments.
    - All players will be required to check in on the Telegram room one hour before the tournament starts.
    - Once you have signed up (see below), you will be added to the appropriate Telegram room. Click here for details of how to get on Telegram. You can also get in touch with any of the members of the SE Tournament Organising Team on Telegram to get added. See their details below.

    Prizes
    Winner - $200 + WC Spot
    2nd Place - $100
    3rd Place - $50

How A Wildcard Swiss-Style Tournament Works:
    - Tournament progress will be tracked on Challonge.com.
    - Each round, players are paired based on points earned so far (Round 1 will be entirely random)
    - Each round involves a best-of-three-games match between two players.
    - The player listed first in the pairing creates game 1 in the Unrated section of the Challenge screen with no other options ticked.
    - Whoever went second in game 1 creates game 2 in the Unrated section of the Challenge screen with the Creator Goes First option ticked.
    - Game 3 (if needed) is created in the same way as game 1 by the same person as game 1.
    - All tied matches are replayed with the same FTA (or random if the game was random FTA).
    - After a match, please report scores in the Telegram room and we will update the Challonge.com bracket. (e.g. Frodo 1-2 Pippin)
    - Winning the match earns you 2 points. If the match is given as a bye for some reason, you get 2 points. You get no points for a match loss.
    - A disconnect will be treated as a loss unless both players agree to replay.
    - A game that ends due to a sync error will be treated as a tie game and replayed accordingly.
    - At the end of all rounds, players are ranked by points. If there are any players tied on points for 1st to 3rd place, we will use the following tiebreakers in order:
    1) The match between the tied players. if tied players have played each other during the tournament, the winner of the match will be declared the winner of the tie.
    2) Sets difference (Total number of game wins - total number of game losses). The tied players will be given a score which is determined by taking the total number of games (sets) won and deducting the total number of games (sets) lost. The highest number determines the strongest player, and thus, the winner of the tie. (So a 2-0 win is better than 2-1 and equally 1-2 loss is better than 0-2 loss). Byes will not be included in the tiebreaker.
    3) There will be a play-off between players still tied. If players are still tied after steps 1 and 2, a playoff will take place to determine the winner of the tie. If more than 2 players are tied at this point, Round Robin will be used.
