For those wondering about sign-ups for Regionals, they will go up on Monday, after we know who made it through to WC2016 via the Pro Tour Finals.
Each regional will take place as a Swiss event, with the top scoring (undefeated) player from each automatically going through to the WC Grand Finals. Depending on the number of entrants in each, there could be 2 or 3 more spots available per region. If there are more players tied in 2nd place (or 3rd or 4th, as required) than there are spots, there will be a play-off between them over the following days to determine who takes the spots. This approach ensures that everyone tries their best through all swiss rounds (rather than intentional draws happening in later rounds to secure Top 8) and avoids the need for a second day with a Top 8 single-elimination. I hope that makes sense.
As for Grand Finals format, it will be identical to last year:
- Day 1 will be 32-player swiss decklock, over 5 rounds of best-of-three, to find Top 8 players.
- Day 2 will be 8-player single-elimination decklock with best-of-five per round.
