Key Tournament Dates for your Diaries in 2016

Hi all!

I'm pleased to be able to confirm some dates for upcoming big events.

Hopefully, the World Championships dates are not too surprising for you, as they are fairly lined up with last year, except for the regionals which are taking place in one day each as opposed to spread over multiple weeks.

Saturday 12th November 3pm GMT+0 - Fall Seasonal Championship (8 players, bo3 per round, single-elimination)

Weekend of 19th-20th November - Pro Tour Finals (format TBA)

Weekend of 26th-27th November - WC2016 Regional Qualifiers (three popup-style events)
- Asia/Oceania starts 5am GMT+0 on Saturday 26th November
- Americas starts 6pm GMT+0 on Saturday 26th November
- Europe starts 12pm GMT+0 on Sunday 27th November
- Note that you can choose any ONE of the three to do regardless of your geographic location.


WC2016 Weekend Wildcard Qualifiers

Wildcard 1 will be 6pm GMT on Sat 3rd Dec
Wildcard 2 will be 11am GMT on Mon 5th Dec
Wildcard 3 will be 6pm GMT on Wed 7th Dec

All will be single-elimination, best-of-three-games per round, decklock events. The winner from each wins a WC2016 invite. The runner-up from each becomes a Reserve for the Grand Finals. (This means we will have 3 Reserves for Grand Finals and they would be taken in priority order based on number of entrants in their Wildcard).

The Wildcard Qualifiers are open to anyone who has not already qualified for WC2016 finals and they are free to enter.

To compete in them, you need to either:
* PM me on Telegram 30 mins before the stated start time to confirm your in-game name and the hero you will use
* send me an in-game mail 30 mins before to confirm the hero you will use.
This is so that I can prepare the bracket and start promptly and also so that players can't decide the hero based on the bracket.

Be prepared to send a decklist to me before we start as well, since this will ensure people don't make final tech tweaks once they see which other heroes are involved.



Weekend of 10th-11th December - WC2016 Grand Finals

Grand Finals format will be identical to last year:
- Day 1 starts at 6pm GMT on Sat 10th Dec and will be 32-player swiss decklock, over 5 rounds of best-of-three, to find Top 8 players.
- Day 2 starts at 6pm GMT on Sun 11th Dec and will be 8-player single-elimination decklock (using same deck as Day 1) with best-of-five per round.

Note that if you have already qualified then you can't take part in a Regional or Wildcard Qualifier.

The regional qualifiers and wildcard will be pop-up style where everyone sits down for a few hours and plays til they either win or they are knocked out. I've updated the OP to reflect this.

There have been numerous ways to qualify in an over-a-period-of-weeks event with Slugfest, Crown and the Seasonal Tournaments, so this approach for the regionals and wildcard has been chosen to cater for the play-in-one-sitting crowd - as well as for practical reasons (multi-week swiss takes a lot of organising and puts more demands on the players as well). This approach also sidesteps the issues of people failing to schedule their matches or doing intentional draws, which always bring controversy with them.

I think its more difficult have 6 hours to play in a single day than play one hour every week for 6 week, if you want have a real wc with all the people swiss is the only way.. With popup you will have a wc just with people casually free to their business in the moment of popup.
Also think that doesn't matter other way to get access to the grand final, this is the main way and should be organize in the best way

I agree that the last year system is more suitable to get best players to finals if they are not already qualified.
And maybe less time consuming in general. I didn't think about before... To have 48 hours free would not be easy.
And I should get onliine also with pro tour event in the same way...
