Raphael Majere's LL Portal Majiya (The Return of the Prodigal Son)

No better way to return back to SE with a deck post.

For the newer players/forum users, I left SE and this forums in Dec 2013 but I am back now. A changed man.

A post about what's happening in my life now: PLACEHOLDER URL

    History of the deck:

Back in Cotc, I have always loved the Deathrace Majiya deck. I used it sparingly to reach the finals of the WC 2012. In order to play this latest LL deck well, you must learn the concept behind 'Deathracing'. In short, it's trying to kill your opponent's hero as fast as possible without dying yourself.

    3 important points:

    1. It doesn't matter if your life is low as long as you are alive and your opponent is not.
    2. You need to analyze and practice in order to decide when it's better to kill your opponent's allies instead of going for your opponent's hero's throat.
    3. You'll want to try to sac every turn because the magic happens when you are able to cast 2 spells in 1 turn, further making the goal of ASAP killing faster, i.e. double fireball, double nova, Nova + FB.

In the finals of WC 2012, I managed to reach Top 8 and was the sole Majiya in top 8. I played the 'Brutal Portal' deck (a deck which ex-BP leader and brother Oblio made with me).

This new LL Portal Majiya deck's concept is a combination of both these 2 decks. Hence, if you are new to Majiya/deathrace concept/portal decks, please check out the 2 decks above.

(Thanks to 17 and Pandev for deckbuilder)

How to use the deck in detail and why some cards are included:

This deck is built with the (FU) twilight meta in mind.

Using the curve is v important for this deck, that means I want to summon something every turn, hence the shards. the shards sometimes allow me to kill off allies via Brimstone Devourer. Also, the shards allow me some random chance to manipulate the graveyard for the Portalling SKs/FTs. If I have 10 resources, I want to portal 2 x 5cc allies instead of a 5cc and a 2cc/3cc.

Tomes are too slow. Sac lambs can't be used on t2 and are counter-reactive to this deck. BS is not good going second. Amulet is also counter-reactive.

    4x Flameforged Gauntlets: no brainer

4 Nova: No one expects 4 Nova. LS is for early control. I don't want early control; becos if I need to, I can clear the board with Nova at t5.

Portal is one of keys to winning. But it's not the only key: if you calculate and think you can win with a string of FB and Novas, go ahead and sac Portal. You can always wait to draw another portal. Portal can be summoned at t6 with a Fatebreaker, t7 with a 3cc, t9 with a SK/FT, and they will still fly on that turn.

You can check my ign: BP RaphaelMajere to view the games and how I win and play this deck.

I am also inviting everyone to make this deck better. Post your inputs and suggestions and questions.
