New Global Feature

Thank for taking the initiative to post this MightyOak. Was something I had intended to post about myself. I agree completely, some sort of moderation for global would definitely be a good thing, get a few too many people abusing it to be rude to others.

I was just talking about this in telegram yesterday with some people. Notice that when I discuss the game in a chat-room it's in telegram. The reason is that the in-game global chat is has just enough obnoxious people saying whatever they want whenever they want that it's not even worth talking. I think 99% of the players in this game are very helpful, laid back, nice people. It's a game with an above-average community of players. Unfortunately the in-game global chat is dominated by a few obnoxious players. For my purposes that doesn't matter much, I know how to interact with the other players on telegram and on the forums.

I am thinking that new players will get the wrong image of the game, though. They download the game and then the first representation of the community they experience is that global chat. I worry that this will drive away other potential players who would be right at home with the in-game community if they knew that one existed outside of that horrible global chat.

I think community members could moderate the chat themselves if it were a more full-featured IRC client integrated into the game - and if it allowed connection via IRC from outside of the game. If this were the case then people could continue to participate in chat while not in game, and potentially you could have the chat break down into separate channels the way that they currently do in telegram.

Most of the players on global that I have met are fairly kind in general but it is the few out there that are the reason I have sent many emails, suggested a mute options as well, and have finally decided that the global community( I also point them to the forums on a daily basis for numerous reason be it a guild they seek or just general info that we have collected here) deserved a little forum love and some support for the same environment we have here on the forum.

I think it will be much like our interactions here or TG providing a few mods throughout a 24 hrs frame could make a presence early on, I do not seriously think they would be required permanently but I could not 100% say this for sure, as even in TG we still need mods to show up for various reasons, as you guys on TG know too we have issues breakout though normally with some kind persuasion and a few trolling sidestep remarks we handle it for the most part. Its only rarely something has to be done such as a ban but thats bc the mod is known and the warnings known to be serious.

I would like to bump this thread ( for Kyle) there is still the abusive ones who show up and it isnt exactly getting any easier to dissuade them from abusing other players. I would again implore Wulven to seek implementing Mod(s) and possibly a report button if at the least to stop this from continuing. I still see in in the global lobby and do what I can to help where I can. If you choose the Mods please consider the Time Zones and try to cover a 24 hr base in your selecting. It would be very helpful IMO to ensure that newer players are not turned off from chatting and playing Shadow Era.
