looks pretty good, but get rid of the cover of night, bazaar and dagger of unmaking, and replace dirk with either puwen or twilight opportunist.
You also might wanna add sorcerer of endia for item control.

Maybe add in Armored Sandworm... cuz they can survive after Nish nukes the board.

I am a noob and learning using this Hero. Like a lot so far.

    12 creatures
    12 direct damage
    12 defense stuff
    3 other good things

About right for these style of decks?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'Defense stuff', but it's generally not necessary to be overly defensive with things like Snow Sapphire.

As a baseline, I would build Mages with roughly 20 allies, 10-12 direct damage, 6 to 10 draw sources and a little tech (item destruction most likely, or possibly more removal like Transmogrification Curse).

The OP's deck looks like a good starting point, but, like Magloroth, I would ditch Dirk, Cover, Dagger and Bazaar for 2 drops (Puwen or Champion of Irum) and 3 drops (Aldon and Layarian Seductress most likely).

Golem is also underwhelming most of the time so I'd switch them for either Pheonix Urigon or Thunderstrike Construct. Possibly Armored Sandworm.

    Sorry learning card names still.

Defensive stuff was things to prevent them from attacking or freezing the ally, removing cards and the like.

Been playing with the base deck given to me and want to start modifying and constructing my own deck. Want to know what cards to purchase.

Effects like Clinging Web and Freezing Grip are not very good usually. Retreat, on the other hand, is a pretty decent card in a number of decks.

You will still want to up your ally count though, 12 is on the low end.

I think for a rush mage you want to divide your deck between direct damage, draw and (cheap) allies, with perhaps a handful of utility cards (like Ley Line Nexus). That said, Nishaven isn't usually a great choice for a rush mage (Eladwen, Loest and Aramia all do it better).

Nishaven can make a decent control deck, and I would direct you to BP Chamthabo's Portal Control Nishaven deck to see how that's done (It's in the strategy section on the forums under mage). I have a video of Sam and I playing that deck in one of our earlier Bob and Sam trolling it up episodes (see my signature).

Yeah the only competitive (Tier 2?) Nishaven decks have been Portal builds lately. Dating from MonoMax's WC 2013 decks.

I played Chamthabo's build after seeing your video and I tried MonoMax's in the past. They're tricky to play and there's a reason why it's mostly just been their creators that have enjoyed a lot of success with them: you need to understand them and the field very well.

If you're just starting out though, an aggressive/midrange Nishaven should be alright. But, like bob said, Elad and Loest are easier to build and play (And ultimately, more powerful).

BTW, I also picked Nishaven as my starter because I like the Wrath effect... turns out it's not much of a Wrath effect by itself.
