    A Change to Kill Effects

So I was discussing concerns of mine about how some of the game mechanics work now and how I think they should work with GDC on Telegram earlier today, and eventually, it was brought up on how effects instantly kill allies (ie Tidal Wave, Yari Marksman, Boris) work.

Currently, they work by dealing enough damage to bring its health to zero. GDC said that he could change it making their health simply reduce down to 0, rather than take damage, when they are hit with an effect that kills allies directly, and said it also would not be a hard change to do as well. He also asked me to set up a poll to see what you all think of this.

The only ramifications of this would affect cards that prevent damage all together (Like Celestial Armor) or effects that trigger off of being dealt damage (Like Decoy Trap, Molten Destroyer, and Twisted Familiar). This will in result be a nerf to them, but most of those cards (Aside from Decoy Trap) are rarely used if ever. So the impact would probably be minimal.

    What do you think?

I chose yes simply because autokill cards state nothing about dealing damage.

The cards should do exactly what they state they do. Nothing more, nothing less.

In theory, Decoy Trap could still be changed to cover it, by responding to "about to be killed" as well as reducing damage which would be a new trigger. I think actually hunters could handle the nerf though.

While I agree to a certain extent, you can't have the rule book up on every card.

    Bad Santa
Each player draws 3 cards to a maximum of 7 cards in hand. If a player would draw a card but cannot because he has an empty deck, he takes 1 unpreventable damage for each card he fails to draw.

    Tainted Oracle
When Tainted Oracle is killed draw 2 cards to a maximum of 7 cards in hand. If you would draw a card but cannot because tour deck is empty, take 1 unpreventable damage for each card you fail to draw.

You can't have every draw effect have all the possible consequences of drawing on them. It's much cleaner to just write 'draw X cards' and have the rulebook define the rules in details. Same goes for healing, etc.

I'm fine with killing meaning 'deal enough damage to bring the ally to 0'.

well, if the wording is changed in decoy trap that will be relly awesome, because is not fun when you have 2 cripplied allies and oponent just keep casting marksman, but i have to agree that killed should be treated as bring its health directly to zero and not taking damage equal to its hp.

Ok, I'm certainly not a rulesmith, but in the case of Celestial Armor , it prevents damage, but killing that ally that's protected by it, would be in effect causing enough damage to kill it, reduce to health to 0 whatever. Am I understanding this?

Holy Shield would lose a lot of value too.

HS should prevent kiling whichever the définition of killing is.
you are right that the definition of the rules book cannot be on the cards, i guess it's just counter intuitive that you have to spend damage to do an instakill
