Just ran into something new (to me, anyway)

an opponent played something like "curse of transmogrification" on me. It took one of my allies and moved it to the support row, with no health and no damage abilities.

What happened, and is there a way to counter it?

it turned it into an item with no abilities. no way to counter it. its a mage card from shattered fates set. transmogrification curse.

Something you should probably know about that card is that once they use Trans Curse on something, they can't use it again on the same ally. So if your Bobcat gets cursed, your second Bobcat is safe from Curse until the first transformed one is destroyed.

no way to counter it specifically (except for brimstone devourer i think, but not really a counter since brimstone dies) but there are ways to remove negative effects
