Getting to grips with Nishaven in 1.25

    Hey everyone,

I'm really new to Shadow Era and have never played a game like it before. I had just got the game in version 1.24 a short while ago and had just started to get the hang of it and now with 1.25 a lot of things have changed meaning like most of you I have had to start from scratch with my strategies etc. The main change affecting my deck was Sandra becoming fairly useless in the new version.

So I have reshuffled my pack so to say and wanted to get your thoughts on it and ask whether the more experienced guys on here could give me some tips for building it further, what cards i should look to aquire next and so forth.

    My deck thusfar is;

    1 x Nishaven
    2 x Jasmine Rosecult
    4 x Puwen
    1 x Erica Shadowhunter
    2 x Raven Wildheart
    2 x Aldon the Brave

    4 x Fireballs
    2 x Freeze
    2 x Poison
    2 x Engulfing Flames
    2 x Lightning Strike

    2 x Research
    3 x Portal
    4 x Rain Delay

    = 33 Cards

Again I'm very new to the game so any tips on how to play what I've currently got and how I can build my deck going forwards would be most appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

Ok. I'm here to help! First off, if you want to run portal... Don't run a direct damage hero. Especially one tuned to hit your allies too. Here's what a nish deck should be.

    -3 portal
    -2 freeze
    -all allies besides puwen
    +4 supernova
    +2-4 crippling blow
    +2 lightning strike
    +2 Aeon?

I don't know how many cards that puts you at cuz I'm in a rush to write this, but with that hero you want to go minimal creatures, heavy burn.

Cool Well, the crippling blow is wrong but otherwise he's right.

The thing you want to keep in mind with ANY hero is that you want to feel like you can use all of their shadow energy. If you don't then you are gaining a resource that you're not using, and that's not efficient. Even heroes that don't have an ability should find ways to either use it (via bows and other weapons that draw on that power) or deny it to both players (Via that one shadow spell whose name I forget). If you run a ally based Nish you are going to (very often) feel as though you can't use your ability because you would lose more than they would. This is bad.

Killtrend said you should run crippling blow. That's obviously not possible but he has the right idea. Cards like Rain Delay, Snow Sapphire, and Voice of Winter which are usually unusable are GREAT in Nish. (Ok, rain delay is only just OK, but SS and VoW are both very good). Run those instead of alot of your allys and every burn spell you can get your hands on.

The best tip I can give you when playing nish:

Don't be afraid to not use a burn spell as soon as you draw it! You should always try and get the most effect out of your burn. Say, for example, you draw a lightning bolt into an empty hand and you both have a clear board. The correct play (assuming he does not just have 3 life) is to just pass the turn. Wait until he plays something else you can shoot. Even if he plays an Aeon (worst case scenario I guess) dealing that extra 3 damage to it is much better than having it stay at 8 life. At least now it's in supernova range.

The good allies to have even in a "ally light" deck like nish are Aeon and Rosecult. Both of these are great for stalling the board while you draw towards a Supernova or Nish blast.

    Good luck, and happy burning!

in my personal opinion, i'd rather go for a "no-ally" deck.

No allies except Puwen and Aeon. Nuff' said.
