    Best way to sort Lego?

What's the best way to sort Lego for easy building access? I'm currently trying the rainbow block method.

    Hi Pete.

I think it depends on what you're planning to build.

Top-level, I would split into 3 groups: Bricks (not including slopes), Plates (the ones 1/3 height of a standard brick) and Other. Everything in the Other category should get its own container. I have about 100 different small containers with different specialist parts in. Doing that top-level sort alone will save you some time later.

Within Bricks, I separate into colour groups, rather than one bucket per colour. Within that, you could have a tub per size of brick. Really depends on how many you have. Plates can be done the same way.

Good advice GDC. Rainbow method is working right now for me though due to my 6 year old being able to easily understand it. Other methods may be more efficient but harder to e plain - at least from experience so far.
