I use iPhone 5c with 7.1 (not updating :P) and haven't had any disconnections at all. Sometimes my data speed drops to 2g after I use up LTE speed and it still works. Can't complain here

My wish to the design team would be an automated reconnect / continue at the last save point of the game.
As you already save every card moves (like to watch a replay of a game) so it should be possible to use this data to continue a
disconnected game. My suggestion would be that this will happen automatically, or, if this is not possible, there should be a
"reconnect" button instead of a "quit" button, which been actually shown when having a connection loss to the SE servers. As you can
also quit on the connection loss screen if you e. g. open the menu and switch to "world", so the separate quit button is not necessary.
I got a bunch today. I've only won one game because of it. At least five times, I was ahead say 5-9 turns in to the match. Then the game acted as though my opponent wasn't doing anything. Then I'd get disconnected for game server. My theory is that each time the other player quit, and for whatevever reason the game glitched at that point and eventually decided that I had disconnected.
I've not had other internet problems at all today. The one game I won I knocked the hero to 0, I haven't won a single game when opponent has quit.
I'm on ipad 2.
Prior to the last couple of days, I was very very rarely seeing a disconnect.

What really bothers me is, that the very old problem with lost connection on mobile networks still persists. If you are on a 3G or 4G network for example, and you lose your reception for some seconds, the game begins to show the reception symbol and counts down - if you get the connection back the game doesn't care. It keeps counting down although you have a connection again and will make you lose the match when the countdown is at zero...

I don't know the specifics of the code that's in there to handle reconnecting, but I guess whatever reason your router has for disconnecting you is making you incompatible with the SE reconnection code when the router reconnects you.
Maybe it is related to local IP address? Have you made your router always assign you the same local IP address for each device? I must confess that I don't do this on my home network (I used to) and I do occasionally get disconnects even though my wi-fi appeared OK. Maybe I got disconnected/reconnected with a different local IP address?
