No. It doesn't hit the field as a weapon, so the previous one isn't destroyed.

As for the first part of the question, there is an upcoming rule change for future version (pending Kyle approval) whereby you will be allowed to play a 2nd weapon even if the first can't be destroyed. SRO will be used to decide which to destroy out of all destroyable items. Therefore, playing a 2nd weapon as a weapon when Sledgehammer is out will immediately destroy that 2nd weapon. If you play 2nd weapon as Spectral Saber's ability then no weapon is destroyed and you get Saber's on-summon ability. Hope that helps.
