Extra Life Double EXP and Gold Weekend

Play video and tabletop games for 24 hours and help raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals through the Extra Life event!

To support everyone participating in Extra Life and to bring more awareness to this campaign, we will be offering ALL digital Shadow Era players double experience and gold the weekend of October 25-26th (EST time)!

If you're going to be grinding for gold anyway, think about signing up as an individual, as a guild, or as a team. It's the perfect excuse to get your partner or parents to let you play games for a whole day ---it's for charity!! It's open to anyone world-wide and the money you raise is directed to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital that you select during registration.

Their website isn't very mobile friendly, you can't access the FAQ and there's no "about us" or anything like that. So what is this about and how does it work?

All I could see were requests for money and avatars of people who gave money. Totally a turn off.

I've cut-and-paste their FAQ below but please let me know if there is something specific you want to know.

    FAQ: http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?...s.page&id=1103
    About Us: http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?...s.page&id=1095

    When EXACTLY is Extra Life?

Extra Life begins whenever you want it to! Just find a date and time that works with your schedule and start playing! If you can make it, our National Game Day will begin at exactly 8 a.m central time on Saturday, October 25th, and ends at 8 a.m on Sunday, October 26th. Remember, if you can’t make this day work, you can do Extra Life whenever it's convenient for you. Some folks even break it into two segments.

What if I can’t commit to that date or the entire time?

The idea and spirit of Extra Life is that everyone pulls together at the same time, but we know that’s not going to be possible for everyone. Don’t let a commitment on the 25th stop you from joining. Just do what you can and make up the game time later. What matters most is the time you put in BEFORE the event to raise money for these kids.

    Which countries may participate?

Extra Life is open to EVERY country on planet Earth. Martians are accepted on a case-by-case basis. The money you raise is directed to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital you select during registration.

Are donations from my country tax deductible?

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donors will receive an IRS compliant tax receipt.

What kind of games qualify for the Extra Life marathon?

All games. From PS4 to poker on your phone, everything counts - even Facebook games!

What if I can’t finish the full 24 hours due to commitments or exhaustion?

If you won’t be able to finish the whole thing, you can make up the remaining hours later. It’s all on the honor system and what really matters is that we’re all raising money for a great cause. Your sponsors should know they are supporting the cause whether you crash on hour 18 or not.

Can I start my own team?

    Absolutely.

Can I Host an extra life event?

Of course! While 90% of Extra Lifers participate from the comfort of their couches, one of the greatest parts of Extra Life is that people can participate however they want. From Extra Life house parties to after-school programs to various tournaments, Extra Life events are popping up around the world. Reach out to our support team if you’d like us to connect you with your local hospital or check out our media kit if you’re looking for promotional materials.

How is the money collected? Where does it go?

Credit card donations may be made on a participant's fundraising page. Cash and check donations will be collected by participants and submitted to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. All funds will be disbursed directly to the hospital selected during registration.

    Can I sponsor myself?

Of course. Or, in the spirit of teamwork, you could also opt to sponsor a fellow participant. To maximize the impact of your donation, visit the Matching Gifts topic below.

How can I maximize the impact of my donation?

You can power-up your donation by asking your employer about your company's matching gift program. A lot of organizations sponsor programs that match charitble contributions made by their employees. You may be suprised to find out your company has a matching gift program, too! The HR department is a great place to start.

How many sponsors do I need to get?

We are asking each gamer to raise a minimum of $100 total. That's as easy as getting 10 friends, neighbors, family members, co-workers, fans or followers to donate $10 each. Sounds simple, right?!

How can I join or change which team I am on? Is there still time?

Yes there is! If you want to join or change which team you are on after you have registered, just log into your Extra Life account and select "Change Team Membership" on the right-hand side of our player toolbar. You will then have the choice to switch to an exisiting team or create a new one of your own!

    Do I get a T-shirt?

Platinum registrants that raise $200 or more will receive a T-shirt in the mail! Once you pass the $200 milestone, be on the lookout for a congratulatory email with instructions on how to redeem your new threads

Thanks. It's weird they don't have a clear and simple description anywhere. Like I gather it has something tondo with 24 hours of gaming, but that's from combining two different answers. I still don't see where the forming a group or joining one comes into it, or how the donations relate to the gaming.

Thanks for sharing and supporting this event, i do hope they get a lot of participation. But they really need to get a marketing person to donate a few hours and help then with their image and presentation.

It's too bad that the website doesn't work too well on phones. But you can watch the touching story of how Extra Life was founded here:

I'm also a registered player for Extra Life = playing for Team Annabelle in support of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. To address some of the issues: in the simplest of terms, Extra Life is a fund raising group that benefits the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Although donations can be received throughout the year, the group organizes a 24 hour gaming day as their annual fund raising event. Those that would like to support Extea Lige can either register as a player in which case they can pick which hospital they would like to play for, or they can donate through another registered player using the "support me" option on their profile. In even simpler terms, its a day for gamers of all types to help make a difference ... Play Games, Heal Kids !!!

I just want to mention also that I will be the one running the Demos & Meltdown tournament on that day at the All Things Fun location. That, and also the Warhammer 40K mega battle ... as a whole for me, its just nice to see a fund raising event that is focused on gamers :-) taking into account how much we spend on rulebooks, software, models, accessories, and much more = its nice to have all of that put to good use .. plus there is the add-on that its not every day that you can play at your LGS for twenty four hours !!!

Just by example of how donations can be applied: up until September I donated 2.00 for every league game I played for Warhammer 40K and Warmachine & Hordes - the amount may seem small but after playing over twenty five games it added up to 50.00, and when three other league players did the same thing the amount donated was 150.00 ... a big stretch from the original 2.00 donation.

For the Extra Life event at All Things Fun next weekend I've decided to pledge 5.00 per hour for Shadow Era related time, as a "thank you" to the SE Crew for their double gold & double experience incentive and to "support" the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia ... I'm probably in for at least five hours running demos and a Meltdown tournament - and that's not even counting the time spent playing the digital game.

Just imagine if all 288 current members online right now did the same next weekend = as little as 1.00 per hour as a "thank you" for the Shadow Era incentive it means for an hour's worth of game time that players would benefit from the boost to gold & experience, while Extra Life would also benefit by having raised another 288.00 ... and just imagine further if all 69,205 active members on this forum did the same next weekend :-) whoot !.. that would be $ 69,205.00 raised by a single gaming community !!! A much longer stretch for a 1.00 donation / the price for a can of soda

If others would like to join the Extra Life program they can simply register as players themselves, or to make things easier they can donate through my profile using the "support me" option. Truly curious if others will take the 1.00 per hour pledge, even if its for only one hour.

Play Games, Heal Kids ... and score double gold / experience next weekend !!!
