I have made around 100 games with this deck so far and i really was surprised how well it works. I am currently at 315 rating.
I have added the Final Version of my deck and a few impressions. Have Fun

I like the concept, but giving my opponent two free card draws with every Crystal Shard feels very counterproductive. Do you have any suggestions for timing?

I agree that the Crystal Shards have a drawback that can turn against you. I have noticed it when facing other Amaria decks. Playing Crystal Shards is like an invitation for my opponent to get his Dagger of Fate. But later to mirror Matches.

The optimal TIming for Shards is when you get more of it then your opponent. When playing it you will gain +1 Card and your Opponent +2 Cards. But Combined with Dagger you will also get 3 to 9 Dmg out. So the optimal timing to play Shards is when you get the most Dmg out of your Dagger.
Also during end game when it comes to Death Race and there are only 2 Turns to play you will just try to go for full DMG and card advantage is only secondary priority.
As already written in the first post shards is a good t2 drop when going second (not always)

I hope this helped you a little. I'm not good in explaining.

Yes, this is certainly one of the few decks that can actually get advantage out of crystal shards and make it more than just bilateral draw. Consider that you also get free buccaneers with it so it's really 2cc and 1 card - draw 2 cards opponnent draws 2 cards, your weapon deals +2 dmg for 2 turns and you have a small chance of getting 1-2 free 3/3 allies.

What i've seen - the best you can hope for is giving yourself two draws and an additional four damage, while your opponent gets two draws. Frequently, you get attacked by a creature on your opponent's turn, which means your blade also runs out - potentially after just one attack with it at full strength. It really stunts the potential.
