I like MSI afterburner to record gameplay videos. It's free and very customizable.
Far more efficient than Fraps imho.
Fraps has no settings (half-size recording is a joke) and you have HUGE files and massive frame rate drops if you record at decent resolution.
Afterburner lets you use much lighter formats with a good quality.

FRAPs definitely benefits from a designated recording rig (things like a dual-HDD setup are extremely useful for it).

Problem with Afterburner (and nVidia's counterpart Shadowplay) is it requires you to have certain generations of hardware to utilize it (as time goes on, this will be less of an issue, as it's "x hardware or newer" for the most part - but right now, there's still a lot of the unsupported hardware in the wild)

I generally recommend DxTory on the compatibility level for flexibility, despite the fact I've used FRAPs for SE since day one (run SE windowed at 1280x720 while recording @ 60 fps since the current client is fps locked *used to be 30fps locked on the PC client, forget which version changed to 60fps lock*). DxTory with the Lagarith Lossless codec works quite smoothly, even on single drive machines, if the machine is strong enough to support recording in the first place (and the nice thing is, DxTory won't lock FPS like FRAPs, so you can record at 30fps while the game continues at 60fps)

Blender is an open source software so it doesn't cost anything. Unless I'm thinking of a different blender, which I might be bc the blender I'm referring to is a graphics program that is just too complex for an SE video. Meant for 3D animations and game development.

Actually... and this is really odd - but you can turn Blender into a video editor... while intended for 3d artwork & animations, its toolset does allow for fairly flexible tweaking. That said, I've never tried that method myself, so your mileage may vary, though now I'm curious to try it to see what I could do with it.

Yep free and easy enough to use as a video editor once you get past the learning curve, allows easy multi-track video and audio - once you set it up as an editor you just save the setup as a .blend file so you can instantly open that file to get a blank layout in editor mode ready to go. Good open souce app and lot of info and help for it online, and yes a 3d app as well that I have seen some very cool stuff come out of.

So I just filmed my deck at 1080p and it's 2 x 800mb mp4 files (like 10 min each) . Any smart way to convert or upload it without f:%%)ing my Internet connection?
