    Post Shadow Era FAQ

    Q: What is Shadow Era?
A: Shadow Era is an upcoming trading card game (TCG) for web, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Q: How much will it cost?

A: All versions will be free to play, featuring the option to earn new cards through gameplay or purchase additional booster packs. Packs of 15 cards can be purchased for $0.99, using in-game gold, or by completing special "trial offers" from SuperRewards.

Q: What do you get for free?
A: You start off with a free pre-constructed deck of 30 cards. You can choose your starting Hero deck, from Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, or Warrior. There are also male and female versions of each.

You can win mini-packs of 3 random common cards by completing quests and leveling up. And just like regular TCGs, you can fully play the game with only the free starter deck, however by purchasing the booster packs you can get rare cards, and many different expansions will be offered with a lot of new card series.

The game will also feature a trading system, where you can sell your unwanted cards for gold, and buy new cards using your in-game gold.

Q: What is the gameplay like?
A: Shadow Era is inspired by more strategic card games such as Magic the Gathering and World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. You will build a deck from a total of 200 unique cards with some of the most amazing art you have ever seen. Complete missions against the Shadow Warriors, or battle against other players to gain experience, and win new card packs each time you level up!

The core card game is most similar to the WoW TCG. Each side has a main Hero character, and you can recruit Allies to join the battle. The objective is simply to kill the enemy Hero, but obviously the challenge is to also keep your own Hero alive. Should you take out the enemy Allies first, or go straight for the Hero? That's for you to decide... To further add to the strategy, there are weapon and armor cards to improve your Hero's stats, as well as ability and spell cards.

Beyond the core game, there is a RPG style level progression and tournament ladder. You can complete missions against the Shadow Warriors, or challenge other player's decks. Each battle you fight will gain you experience, and at each level you will be rewarded with Novice Card Packs which contain 3 random common cards. At higher levels you can start to earn Expert Card Packs which have a chance of uncommon cards.

Look for the gameplay video to be posted very soon!

Q: What game modes are available?
A: Offline play - you can complete missions against enemy AI that uses special monster decks
Online challenge - pick another player to challenge, and play against their deck controlled by AI. The other player does not have to be online, but you have to be online to retrieve the list of players at your skill level, and their current deck. Think of this like a Mafia Wars type challenge.
Online real-time - play against another live player in real time

Q: Will it have cross platform multiplayer?

A: Yes, you can play against someone in realtime using any of the supported platforms

Q: What are the icons on the cards?

A: Top left: Casting cost. In Shadow Era, each turn you can choose to sacrifice a card to gain energy, that will allow to to bring new cards into play.
Top right: Class restrictions. The icon identifies this card as only being available to Wulven Heroes.
Bottom left: Attack damage. You can choose the target of your attack, and you will do this much damage to them.
Bottom right: Health. Be warned that your target will also fight back! When the card's health drops to 0, the card is removed from play. If you lose your hero, then you have lost the game.

Q: What types of cards are there in Shadow Era?
A: The first set of 200 cards can be broken down as follows:
    Human Heroes: 10 cards
    Shadow Heroes: 10 cards
    Human Allies: 20 cards
    Shadow Allies: 20 cards
Class Abilities: 10 cards each, x7 classes (Shadow faction has Wulven and Elemental heroes, instead of the Priest and Rogue of Humans)
Human Abilities, Shadow Abilities, Neutral Abilities: another 30 cards
    Armor: 20 cards
    Weapons: 20 cards
Additional expansion sets with another 200 cards are planned about every 6-8 months

Q: What cards will come in booster packs?
A: It will cost $0.99 for a pack of 15 random cards - 10 common, 3 uncommon, 1 rare or epic, and 1 hero card. Or you can buy packs with in-game gold earned through gameplay, selling your unwanted cards, or completing free "trial offers" from SuperRewards.

Q: What are the deck construction rules?
A: You can build your own decks following these simple rules:
    - one hero card
    - minimum 30 cards in a deck, no maximum
    - maximum of 4 copies of a card in a deck
    - cards can only be included that share a trait with your hero: same faction (humans/shadows), or same class (warrior sword, etc). There are also neutral cards that can always be included

Q: Will you be translating the game to other languages?
A: We realize that the world is a very big place, and we want to offer the game localized in as many languages as possible. After the initial English release is finalized, we will be translating to: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Portuguese, Czech, Norwegian, and Vietnamese. Whew!

Translations will be done by professional translators, and includes localized card images as well as all text and GUI elements in the game.

However, official community discussions such as these forums will remain in English only.

Please feel free to ask any questions here, so I can add it to the FAQ!

Will this be cross platform? Like for instance, will I be able to challenge my friend who is on the computer, while I'm on my iPod?

Yes, you will be able to do cross-platform multiplayer against any device. Additionally, each version uses the same graphics and special effects, only on smaller screens such as iPhone it will zoom to the action more dynamically.

You've mentioned earlier that there will be a market where you can trade your duplicates. Question is, will this market be player to player or will the sales be "to" Shadow Era for a fixed price per card?

    Thanks

At launch, all sales will be to an NPC merchant with limited inventory based on what cards were actually sold to him by other players.
We have plans to implement player to player secure trading as an added feature shortly after the game is released.

I hope that comes quickly as in a TCG the T for trading is a VERY large part of the TCG experience. at some tournament is went to for MTG i spent twice as long making trades as i did playing the game hehe ;-p

Though I do like the static npc shop concept for the more anti social gamers that dont want to deal directly with other players for card trades, so yah shadow era really needs both!!

Are you rolling out different versions first? Like the PC version or the iPad/iPhone version before the others?

Basically it works on a 2:1 scale. Eg you can sell 2 common cards to buy 1 common card. 1 uncommon card is worth 2 common cards. 1 rare card is worth 2 uncommon cards, or 4 common cards. To buy 1 rare card, you need to sell 8 common cards (do the math heheh). The actual gold value is relative to that.
