    Loest is WoW Art

I was playing online with a friend yesterday (who happens to be an avid WoW player). He doesn't play Shadow Era online very often so he was confronted by that annoying Loest telling him how to play. As soon as he saw Loest, he asked me "Who is this Loest and why is he holding Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian?"

That's right, it would seem that Loest is yet another card who has World of Warcraft fan art. He is an unidentified human mage holding a staff which is instantly recognizable by anyone who plays a lot of WoW. We can only assume that the city behind him is in fact Stormwind, the human capital.

Loest - Human mage with a staff from WoW
Phoenix Urigon - Deathwing the Destroyer from WoW
Morbid Acolyte - Some sort of Troll Witchdoctor from WoW

Am I missing anything? I remember something about Battle Hardened but I forget whether it's from WoW or not.

I respect the fact that Wulven now owns this artwork and have every right to use it, but at the same time do we want Shadow Era to be known as the game which uses WoW fan art for all its cards? It's as easy as doing a little research, or asking the artist what the painting is supposed to be before buying it.

I prefer not Twio but due to Wulven's unwillingness to change Phoenix Urigon I doubt they will change the others. I'm surprise they can copyright these artwork and even more surprise WoW can't do anything about it. Either way I'm the rest of the community, like myself, will continue playing it anyways XD

Battle Hardened remains me more of Guild War's 2 artwork rather than Wow's.

It was discussed when Loest was first spoiled. He's actually a fanpic of a medivh.

It doesn't help that he's the hero used as the guide for the game.

That's the same as saying "a dragon on fire is instantly recognizable?" when talking about Deathwing. The dragon and the staff both have specific characteristics which make them easy for WoW players to identify.

Apart from looking exactly the same, there is something else which tells us it is Atiesh. In Loest's art, there is a raven on his shoulder and more ravens in the background. In WoW lore, Atiesh is known to attract ravens towards its owner.

That makes sense. And I agree completely. I definitely don't think we should be using WoW characters who actually have names. Morbid Acolyte is different because in WoW he's a generic NPC who doesn't have a name and who isn't crucial to the storyline. But I would stay clear of main characters like Deathwing the Destroyer and Medivh.

Really? :/ It doesn't look like him, I don't think he can even wear full plate armor

There's no way to copyright an "owl staff" and the idea certainly wasn't first used in WoW...

A quick search on Google gives plenty of examples, including real life antiques.
