Question what is a pop up?

I've seen this term rather a lot, and from context I can tell its a form of tournament. But beyond that I have no idea what makes it different from any other tourney that it got its own name.

It is indeed a style of tournament, generally a kind that is a bit more short notice, and takes place over a shorter time period and with fewer players. For example if there are say 8 players on the IRC channel they might just decide to have a little tournament right there just for fun. They're just short, quick tournies, with generally fewer special rules and formats than more extensive long tournies. That's how I'd define them at least.

A pop-up is a simple best-out of 3, single elimination (99% of the time) tournament that is quick and can be done in an afternoon. Generally 8 players, 16 sometimes.

So it can be called a small friendly tournament among friends.

another main difference is everyone shows up and plays the whole tournament at one time where as other tournaments usually have a week a round and you have to schedule your match

    that's basically it.

To add, all pop-ups usually finish in 1 single session. Players who lose in the first/second/third/whatever rounds can leave the tourney chat once they are out of the pop-up tourney.

    History:

Hatts is the one who gave the name 'pop-up' to this type of tourneys. He hosted the first-ever pop-up. He named it as such in reference to 'pop-up' trendy restaurants who suddenly appear in cities, make a lot of money, plateau, and close.

since then, the term has caught on.

Virtually every player in that Popup is a legend. Coincidence.

logan was T0 because of a bug with berzerkers rage where it would gain +1 for damage and +1 for the kill with logans ability so it would be dealing like 7 damage on the last swing. I feel he would have been beatable if they just fixed that and maybe modified teh skill slightly to not add damage. but no, they had to give him the jericho treatment.
