I'll take the side of philanthropy... it's generally better to give, and let the few exploit, than it is to take away, and make those legitimately in need suffer worse. (though it's worth noting that Philanthropy is not the antithesis of Misanthropy... Philanthropy is the action of being generous and supportive of humanity, Misanthropy is the belief that humanity is a dreg)
