This was going to be my reply too. Control isn't strong with Mage, direct damage is. Kill the hero.

Well if you use a Rogue Hero then you can always use the Assassination

card but since you use Mages it really depends on the Mage you use. I use Aramia

so I don't get the freeze ability so what I do is power up a Homunculus card so that it does major damage to the sandworm even with the worm's ability.

Well, another way could be to play layarian diplomat. Target the sandworm or armored ally with layarian diplomat and then beat away on it with your allies or your burn spells.
