Riphide and protectors (not a bug)

Hey, quck question, I was playing TJ 4Ak today, and he cast Riphide. Who neatly bypassed my protector and killed my Layarian Seductruss.
Which is very rude. ( oh yeah , I was playing Tala ) 4Ak was playing Bloodfang. Now Riphide will attack lowest health ally "if able" I submit that the protector made him unable to attack! Or am I missing something?

The only thing that prevents riphide is hidden or stealth...or rain delay and that warrior card that prevevnts friendly allies from being attacked

Not a bug. Where does it say that there is any targeting involved?

Not saying it does, but if the defenition of protector is no allies can be attacked while its on the board it makes riphides ability questionable in this case.
So basically , he can bypass protectors, cool.

And thanks for changing the title.

    Protector
    – Allies without Protector can’t be targeted by other players.

The word "attack" is nowhere present in the definition of the keyword Protector so I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Ok this could be a cool lesson for me, when Riphide uses his ability he attacks, correct? Or is the word "targeted " key here? Riphide targets, then attacks the lowest health ally , so it's just a play on words. ( ofc those words determine the rules, no doubt)
But it still seems to me that the ally with protector is the only valid target on the board, I mean, you can't CB, LS or use many hero's abilities on allies behind a protector.

But I get it, if that's the rule , that's the rule.

The thing with Riphide is that he doesn't target, just attacks. It's an automatic thing that happens.

If you, as a player, declare an attack, you have to issue a target to it. Riphide's ETB trigger skips this phase.

Yes, it's all about the wording. It would not be able to ignore protectors had it said "... Riphide targets and attacks...".
Logically, it doesn't make any sense, but it is what it is.
