1st be sure to read this: Guide to understanding tournament formats.
Then you can start planning your own kind of tournament.
In this guide i’ll teach you how to organize your event in a few and easy steps. Be the best TO (Tournament Organizer) in Shadow Era!
1st step: I have an idea!
Very important step, you have to be sure that you have a good idea to make a tournament. Is better if its something original but if you wanna use a theme already made by another TO, be sure to ask permision 1st.
2nd step: Rules.
You have to cover all posible loops. Watch a tournament thread from another TO to see what kind of rules you need (try to look for a experienced TO). You must be updated with all bugs and server problems that the game could have at the time of your event.
Is also good if you already participated in a pop up or tourney before, it’ll help you to understand how to handle different situations.
Be sure to read and understand really well all the rules and your tournament’s format. You’ll receive a lot of questions from participants and you have to answer right away if you dont want your tourney last forever.
3rd step: Making a pretty thread.
You have to do it on Organize play section of the forum Organize Play
Make it nice and pretty, it will attract more players this way, It makes you look like you know what you are doing
Use colors and if you can create a banner, will be better.
4th step: Familiarize yourself with the different sites you’ll need.
All competitions in SE use IRC to chat outside the game. Familiarize yourself with the different apps for IRC.
This is the one for browser client IRC
Main SE channel: #shadowera
Tournaments channel: #tournament
Wulven has added a new chatbox in main forum to help players in tournaments to communicate better (IRC style). Is good but i still prefer IRC
All tournaments needs randomness to decide who plays versus who. Here is when you’ll need random brackets.
Challonge is the easiest site to make your brackets, make an account and before the tourney starts, be sure to know all the options. You can simúlate some tournaments and see how you can handle different situations.
Challonge: Challonge site
5th step: ask for sponsorship.
To make people play in your tournaments, you’ll need prizes. In SE you can use shadow crytals as prize but you have to spend some Money to get them and wont be cheap.
Lucky you, “Wulven wants to sponsor your events!”. Like the title says, Wulven (Administrators of the game) will sponsor your tournament as long as you respect their rules.
You just read Wulven’s rules and if your tournament covers all they ask, you can ask for sponsorship!
Post in the same thread asking for sponsor, adding the link to your tournament and being polite. Don’t go crazy asking for an unlimited amount of crystals, just ask for the crystals you need following their list in the first page of the thread. One person in charge of approving your prizes has to post telling that is approved. If this doesn’t happen, then you can’t offer prizes in your tournament.
8 players --> 500 / 250 sc
16 players --> 1000 / 500 sc
32 players --> 1500 / 1000 / 500 sc
Advertise this in your tournament’s thread and add that you are being sponsored by Wulven.
6th step: The day of the tournament (pop up only).
Try to be early on the IRC, this way you can check that everything works well and you won’t have a surprise in the middle of the competition. Go to challonge to check that the site is not down.
Usually only 50% of signed up players, will show up. You can look for more players in main channel of IRC (#shadowera). Try to not start the competition too late, if the time says o’clock, then try to not delay it more tan 10 minutes.
We are back to rules, is really important to know very well your rules, you’ll have to answer a lot of questions from participants. People don't read threads, just sign up and hope for the best.
7th step: Finishing the tournament.
Once the tournament/pop up is finished you have to be sure of having all the correct IGNs (in game name) of the winners. Ask them or just go look for them in the tournament thread.
How to pay prizes? Send an email to support@shadowera.com with the next info:
Usually takes no more tan 3 or 4 days to get the prizes, always depending of support times. You’ll get an email telling you that winners got their prizes.Title: Tournament Prize Request
Explain a Little the reason to send the email.
IGNs of winners and how much crystals they get.
Link to your tournament thread in SE forum.
Link to the post where says that your prizes were approved.
