    Buqs [SF] Necronomicon (Undead Guide)

    INTRO:

This is one of the most synergistic tribes to date in Shadow Era. This is probably due to having available Undead tribe cards as early as Call of the Crystals and constantly adding them with each of the expansions. The tribe in general has a feeling of interacting with graveyard, this is depicted with cards like Cryptspawn Hound needing a certain number of undead allies in the graveyard, and Shadow Knight removing cards from the graveyard. While not all cards seem to fit this theme, as can be seen in cards like Keldore and such which were released in CotC well before the design team was implemented. There are lots of synergies and conflicting synergies within the tribe, which will branch out the types of builds we will start to see develop. All in all this will be a heavily played tribe and is certainly my favorite.

    ALLIES:

Frostmare (2cc - 1/2) {ice} Haste. While an opposing player controls more allies than you, Frostmare costs 1 less resource to summon.
Notes: One of the best new allies in the game. Provides a nice haste option for shadow and can replace DMT in some builds
Favorable Pairing: Vess, Raikka, Majiya, Banebow, Baduruu, Skervox, Darkclaw, Zaladar, Paraxix, Elementalis, Scheuth Tombstone, Cryptspawn Hound, Der'Kan

Harbinger of the Lost (2cc -1/3) When Harbinger of the Lost enters play, each player discards a card from their deck. If at least one ally was discarded this way, Harbinger of the Lost gains +1 base attack and +1 health.
Notes: one of the best 2 drops in the game, however if your deck is not designed to benefit from discarding via graveyard requirements or graveyard recycling the cost is to great
Favorable Pairing: Gravebone, Piraxix, Braxnorian Veteran, Reserve Weapon, Undying Bond, Arthyls Crypt, Shadow Knight, Eternal Renewal, Necro Shroud, Helm of Saymeth, discard builds

Deathbone (3cc - 2/2) When Deathbone is killed, its killer takes 2 damage.
Notes: He may actually become a useful ally. Before SF he was limited in usefulness, but with increase options of haste and pseudo-haste he has some really decent potential
Favorable Pairing: Vess, Raikka, Gravebone, Portal, Will to Fight, Necro Shroud, Charred Cowl of the Damned

Keldore (3cc - 2/4) 2: Keldore has +2 attack until the start of your next turn.
Notes: the forgotten one could make a comeback with the new heroes, but that might be it
    Favorable Pairing: Vess, Raikka, Skervox

Death Mage Thaddeus [Unique] (3cc - 0/4) When Thaddeus is summoned, target opposing hero or ally takes 1 damage. 0: Target opposing hero or ally takes 2 damage.
Notes: the original pinger, still has same usefulness, but will lose some play spots in favor of frostmare and Der'Kan
Favorable Pairing: Raikka, Majiya, Banebow, Baduruu, Skervox, Piraxix, Zaladar, Frostmare, Der'Kan

Death Collector (3cc - 3/4) {electric} 2: Target ally in a graveyard is exiled (removed from the game) and Death Collector gains +1 base attack and +1 health.
Notes: this guy is still the bomb. By far the best 3cc ally available to this tribe for those decks wanting some meat on the board (non-ping build). He can be considered an alt/mini fatty and has nice graveyard control
Favorable Pairing: All undead builds, auto include except ping builds

Cryptspawn Hound (3cc -3/4) {ice} When Cryptspawn Hound is killed by an ability while there are at least 2 Undead allies in your graveyard, Cryptspawn Hound is returned to its owner's hand.
Notes: This guy is a nice option. He's generally ok early provided you can get to graveyard requirement fast, but late games he's fantastic. Considering most types of removal are abilities he essentially becomes auto recycler. Played best onto a board that expects a tidal wive or wipe and laugh at your opponent as they bounce back to your hand. He's also got great 3cc stats.
Favorable Pairing: Frostmare, Doomsayer, Sac Lamb, Necro Shroud, Charred Cowl of the Damned, Evil Ascendant, Furrion Terror, Supernova, Energy Discharge, Conversion, other similar types

Corpse Hurler (4cc - 2/6) 0: Target Undead ally in your hand is discarded: Target opposing hero or ally takes 3 damage.
Notes: Nice high Heath ally. Ability is really nice because it can target hero or allies. Cost of ability can empty your hand so some form of undead recycling and good deck drawing is needed to help fuel the ability.
Favorable Pairing: Gravebone, Majiya, Raikka, Banebow, Baduruu, Skervox, Moonstalker, Darkclaw, Zaladar, Shadow Knight, Arthyls Crypt, draw cards

Der'Kan, the Bone King (4cc - 3/4) {ice} When Der'kan is summoned while there are at least 3 Undead allies in your graveyard, target hero or ally takes 2 ice damage. When Der'kan is killed while he is the only ally you control, he is returned to your hand.
Notes: This guy is kinda hard to use. He is excellent at what he does, but general mean you want to combine him with low cost and squishy allies so you can get to his graveyard requirement much sooner.
Favorable Pairing: Raikka, Majiya, Banebow, Baduruu, Skervox, Zaladar, Piraxixx, Frostmare, DMT, Falseblood Cultist, Necro Shroud, Sac Lamb, Bone Saber

Shadow Knight (5cc - 5/4) When Shadow Knight is summoned, the top ally in your graveyard is returned to your hand.
Notes: Body plus pseudo ally draw makes him one of my older favorite allies. I pretty much use him in most of my builds but he works against allies that need graveyard requirement to achieve their abilities. He has no real synergy with any undead allies.
Favorable Pairing: Gravebone, Portal, Bone Saber, Will to Fight

Dakrath [Unique] (7cc - 5/5) Dakrath can't be frozen or disabled. When Dakrath is dealt damage while your deck is not empty, that damage is reduced by 2 and 1 card is discarded from your deck.
Notes: At such a high cost he has to be considered an ally designed with Gravebone in mind. This guy is a sandworm on steroids and if you build your deck properly you can get him on board by turn 3-4. While he doesn't have steadfast he has some nice built in features that help with some specific matchups. The continuous discard exchange for damage reduction means he will not pair with any DoT cards.
Favorable Pairing: Gravebone, Abomination Factory, Falseblood Cultist, Living Armor, Stomeskin, Fatebreak Familiar, Bone Saber

    ABILITIES:

Undying Bond [Support] [Mage] (4cc) The top 2 allies in your graveyard are returned to your hand. Friendly Undead allies have +1 attack until the start of your next turn.
Notes: Not a game changing card by any means. Its a little bit of specific pseudo draw and attack buff in one card. Really I mostly see this being used in discard builds to help compensate the draining of your deck or to reload some ammo for Corpse Hurler. I can't see timing this consistantly for the attack boost but it should come in handy on occasion.
Favorable Pairing: Raikka, Majiya, Frostmare, Death Mage Thaddeus, Corpse Hurler, Dakrath, Scheuth Tombstone, Necro Shroud, Charred Cowl of the Damned

Grave Resistance [Support] (0cc) Duration 3. All damage to friendly Undead allies is reduced by 1.
Notes: This is an interesting card, but I don't think it will see a lot of play at all. This basically turns all your undead allies into Gargoyles. The uses will be restricted for early game builds, seeking to have these allies survive, and late game decks that use Charred Cowl of the Damned. No cost means you can always time it properly, but you'll need to be able to draw cards very successfully early to compensate the card lost from hand.
Favorable Pairing: All Undead Builds, Charred Cowl of the Damned, Evil Ascendant, Furrion Terror

    ITEMS:

Scheuth Tombstone [Artifact] (3/3D) 1D: If you summoned an Undead ally this turn, 1 of your resources is renewed and you draw a card.
Notes: This is a great draw engine by design. While not every hero will be able to capitalize on 3cc, as it becomes a tempo loss, those that can will reap some nice rewards. After this in play you gain the benefit of simply playing more undead allies and gaining draw + resource renewal (+1). While the renewal isn't that much it can prove to be oh so valuable in getting a combo in play 1 turn earlier.
Favorable Pairing: Vess, Banebow, Baduruu, Skervox, Majiya, Raikka, Moonstalker, Zaladar, Frostmare

    ARMORS:

Necromancer's Shroud (3cc - 3/1) 2D: Target Undead ally in your graveyard with cost 3 or less is returned to play readied, with 1 health, and killed at the end of the turn.
Notes: This card has a lot of potential and flexibility to it. Aside from being an armor, you can use the armors ability to pseudo revive an ally. This ally can be considered as a form of direct damage which is nice addition for every class. With some careful planning, you can utilize this ally in other ways such as drawing, recycling, graveyard clearing, and even keep the ally on the board by removing the armor.
Favorable Pairing: All Shadow Heroes, Harbinger, Deathbone, Death Collector, Cryptspawn Hound, Slingblade Demon, Sac Lamb, Meltdown, other armors

Charred Cowl of the Damned [Mage/Hunter] (7cc - 5/2) When a friendly Undead ally is killed while it is not ablaze, it returns to play set ablaze and is readied at the end of the turn.
Notes: Nice finishing armor. Allows you to play allies and if your opponent can't deal with them multiple times you will end up flooding them.
Favorable Pairing: Banebow, Baduruu, Skervox, Majiya, Gravebone, Cryptspawn Hound, Grave Resistance

    WEAPONS:

Bone Sabre [Mage/Hunter] (5cc - 1/4) Ambush. At the end of combat where an opposing ally was damaged by Bone Sabre, that ally is attacked by the friendly Undead ally with the highest attack if able.
Notes: This is an excellent weapon and able to provide pseudo haste to one of your allies. Ambush so you don't receive any retaliation damage, and depending on the ally you can have up to 6 damage from one swing. You can use this with an ally that is exhausted, or get a double attack from an ally already in play. This form of haste is pseudo haste so haste blockers will not work except for VoW. Note, you do not get the weapon benefit from last durability. Second Note, the retaliating ally of your will be the one with highest attack that came on board first (the last ally is currently performing attack)
Favorable Pairing: Gravebone, Baduruu, Skervox, Shadow Knight, Dakrath, Der'Kan, Necromancer Shroud

    HERO INFO:

    HERO: Vess
With her ability to control the board and set up without missing a beat she can easily play the undead tribe. Frostmare + Spiked Bolas Strike is warriors version of LS and this combo can be pulled off for 2cc if timed properly. Will to fight/Necro shroud are nice haste/pseudo haste options and warriors/undead have tons of recycling potential. All in all, Vess should have some success with the undead in a variety of ways.

    HERO: Raikka
Raikka has a interesting ability which works wonders for an early game. She can utilize her ability both in an offensive and defensive way depending on your boards needs. Because of the defensive nature of her ability, this can act as a buffer to allow some of the allies with low hp to be played as well take a turn to set up with Scheuth Tombstone + Frostmare combo if you have a 3cc ally in play. She can also further bolster the defensive capabilities of your friendly allies with Grave Resistence for 2 damage reduction combined with her ability.

    HERO: Majiya
Majiya has always been able to play a late game build which allows for alot of flexibility in how you want to build your deck. She has lots of potential with a ping type build, especially with a setup of Scheuth Tombstone + Frostmare. This allows you to combo with her ability to take out a 4hp ally and draw 2 times which is a nice hand boost in transition to mid-game, and then follow up with more undead allies. This set up helps to setup decks wishing to run portal as you can constantly be filling your hand with cards while seting up for the late game portal power swing.

    HERO: Gravebone
The ruler of the Undead can certainly play the Undead Tribe. SF definetly put him on par with other heroes like Baduruu in being able to combo his ability with a Fatty as the charge becomes available (of course if you can get the ally of choice in the graveyard). There are lots of cards that provide discard options to allow fatties to go straight to the graveyard and be revived with GBs ability. You can also delay the revival of your fatty (SK/Dakrath) to combo with Bone Saber for a really nice pseudo haste option with the revival of an ally forcing oppent to decide, take out sabre or fatty first. Because the deck will contain discarding options you can add in some Necro Shrouds to make further use of those undead allies and pull off some pretty impressive combos in the right build.

    HERO: Banebow
Banebows ability pairs very well with all the ping options that the undead have available. He can utilize Scheuth Tombstone, Necro Shroud and Charred Cowl of the Damned and create an unstopable army. He can also combine this undead ping strength with some of the other hunter tools very effectively.

    HERO: Baduruu
This weapon based hero has access to the best undead weapon available, bone saber. Baduru can play the weapon and pseudo haste in either a Shadow Knight or Der'Kan for some nice damage options on the same turn. This creates 2 threatening options for your opponent to have to choose to deal with first. Additionally Baduruu got other options with the undead pingers to assist with kill shots.

    HERO: Skervox
Much like Banebow, Skervok can combine his ability with alot of the pinger type allies that the undead have to control the board, and also pairs nicely with the hunter tools available. Because his ability allows for some stall tactics and heavy resource growth (with Bounty Hunter), he can utilizie the higher costing Undead options, or combo alot of the lower costing options and should have alot of flexibility in types of builds.

    HERO: Darkclaw
An undead allied build can certainly work with Darkclaw to create a dual threat build. Whether aiming to play an early allied build then switching over to solo weapon with derken support to finish, or simply going with a full ping type build he should have some success with the undead tribe. He also has access to JD and other wulven control tools to assist with controling the board.

    HERO: Moonstalker
Moonstalker has a nice ability which can allow for protection for your friendly allies and also allow for a slower set up. He can utilize both Bloodmoon and Scheuth Tombstone effectively for drawing, then switching to flood mode. They might not be the strongest tribe for Moonstalker because the allies you will play tend to have HP which can easily be dealt with behind stealth, but potentially combined with Grave Resistance you can turn the Undead into a bunch of gargoyles. Corpse Hurler can be a nice addition to provide some DD options for moon, which can be supported by the drawing power of Bloodmoon and Scheuth Tombstone and Wulven control tools.

    HERO: Zaladar
Zaladar has always been a hero to rely on the combo of his ability with DMT. The undead tribe now has a few more options that can be used as alternative pings to help solidify this combo. Scheuth Tombstone + Frostmare still allows for this type of combo but allows for setting up a draw engine as well. Elementals also have access to Antimatter which promotes discarding which can help to set your graveyard up for using Derken more effectively. Also Necro Shroud provides an additional damage source that can be comboed with Zals blast incase your needing just a few extra damage points, and also comboing this with cards like energy extraction for maximum carnage.

    HERO: Praxix
Much like Zaladar, Praxix will probably rely on a ping type build to finish off some allies that have been damaged by his hero ability. Both his hero ability and Antimatter promotes discarding which can help to set your graveyard up for using Derken more effectively. Also Necro Shroud provides an additional damage source that can be be used to deal a few extra damage points, and also comboing this with cards like energy extraction for maintaining board control. He can also use cheap cards like syncronicity with allies revived via necro shroud for further board control.

    HERO: Rothem
Much like Vess, Rothem has access to alot of the Warrior/Undead recycling potential. This means that he can utilize alot of the allies that have this discard feature to achieve his desired results. I dont see the Undead being particularly the strongest way to play with Rothem though. He will have to play aggressive with the board early so that he can maximize the potential of his ability which will come much later. I would not find it strange to see BF become a later option (or use altenative drawing mechanics) in an undead build.

    OTHER HEROES:

Currently I think the following heroes would have limited success with an Undead tribal deck.

    Ter Adun
    Logan
    Bloodfang
    Elementalis

This is a good list of the tribe and its potential uses. I hadn't actually considered Baduruu summoning Bone Sabre, I very much like that!
