Hmmm I suppose I've had a few turning points:
-Giving up sports was probably the first major one. I didn't like the atmosphere and the way people acted about them, so I ended up switching to video games instead. Was good until I found the same atmosphere when I got the internet, but at least not everyone is like that. Still, thanks to that switch I've enjoyed video games in a light I never saw before then.
-Moved across the country, won't explain reasons (a bit too personal
), to NC. I would also like to point out that it took around 2 years to start understanding the dialect here. I can't tell you how many times the different types and speeds of the pronunciation of words caught me off guard. The first example being the word Error (I pronounce it Air-er, they pounce it Err-ah, this lead me to believe they were saying Arrow as Air-ah and made me really confused in that math class =/). At this time the only one I've picked up is the use of the words Ain't and Y'all, to my old English Teacher's dismay. (I think I adopted these two simply because I was laughed at as a middleschooler for saying "hey
you guys want to play some basketball", when they would say "y'all wanna play some basketball")
-Going to college and becoming separated from all my highschool buddies
-Finding college buddies whom I still hang out with today despite that we've all graduated (bar one trying to become a doctor)
-Getting this job
And here we stand.
