    Lightbulb Miss use of Homunculus

The word 'homunculus' is Latin for 'little people'.

I don't see the relation of the 'soon to be released' Growing Bog Dweller or Voracious Arachnid and a 'little person'.

Are these creatures ruled or created by a tribe of little people???
And if this is so... (and most importantly) why is there not a midget riding upon the back of the voracious arachnid?

Misused according to the literal definition there true, but in Shadow Era terms (and by some alchemy terms) Homunculus refers to these creatures that have been put together artificially. Wish NachyoChez would put out that Tribes in Focus they've been mentioning for a while, would clear some of this stuff up better probably though.

Literally translated, yes it does mean 'little people'. However, the term was coined in early alchemical texts to define the process of creating living things. With that in mind, it becomes a little more apparent why we adopted the term for our 'little' friends!

as stated multiple times above, Homunculi are (in a very broad definition) any artificially engineered living organism with overwhelming human attributes. In the old days they attributed this to alchemy (transformation of materials), today it's usually attributed to science or magic.

Frankenstein's monster and Mewtwo are both perfect examples of famous fictional homonculi.

growing bog dweller does not truly exhibit the amount of "humanity" necessary to be a by-definition homunculus, but the arachnid has the torso of a hominid so it stands.

And a personal favorite of mine (which I'm sure nobody else here has heard of, but they're a pretty good example), the ancestors: completely man-made animals with internal organs that are a perfect match to those of humans.
But personally, I love the DT's use of the word. The first time I saw a homonculus in fiction, it was both definitions: a little man born from a test tube.
    ...And you spelled 'misuse' wrong.
