But personally, I love the DT's use of the word. The first time I saw a homonculus in fiction, it was both definitions: a little man born from a test tube.

So many games and comics (ex:MMORPG Ragnarok) that I have played and read that refer homunculus as a creature made by human/alchemist
So no issue for me

Pinocchio is weird. He has three "forms"; animated item, homunculus, and chimera.

When he's just a doll, he's literally just a walking, talking, magically animated doll. Later he becomes a homunculus (an engineered, biological creature) when he is magically turned into a real boy. Even later he is magically turned into a donkey and in the single most basic definition of the word, he is a hybrid of two separate creatures; a chimera.

The cool thing about all this is that homunculi and chimera are not mutually exclusive traits. You can create an engineered chimera. It's as simple as making a monster from bear parts and shark parts, and then pulling a god and giving it's corpse life. Boom. Chimera
