    Hallelujah!!!

    Problem solved!!!

    IE>Tools>advanced>reset all settings

I downloaded baldur gate extended edition , had the same login problem as SE, I immediately knew there was something wrong with my connection or how some apps communicated with other servers. Realized I had issue with iTunes App Store too.

Anyways, life is sweet now. Heh heh.

If shriek bug is solved before LCQ WC, it will be even better.

I hope the solution can help others in a similar issue.

Glad to hear it's working now but how did IE settings affect the Standalone PC Client? That's weird and worth communicating to others on Windoze.

IE? As in Internet Explorer? I don't think that's an actual browser. :P

Also I'm having problems on PC. When I play I get an error sometimes and get a dialog box (Failed Context something) and then the game force closes.

EDIT: Fatal error in gc, GetThreadContext Failed. And then there is only an OK button.

    Oops!
    The game crashed.
The crash report folder named ________ next to game executable.
It would be great if you'd send it to the developer of the game!

Apparently, I think the IE has settings tied in with the OS internet connections that cannot be adjusted from anywhere else except IE.

Hi, I'd been looking up this forum myself to try and get around this problem. I used to have a similar problem with World of warcraft. My brother told me he fixed a similar problem by doing the following, and this worked for me too for BGEE:
On my laptop, I went into internet explorer (even though I use firefox), went into tools>internet options> advanced tab> and hit 'reset' near the bottom of the pop-up window. Then I re-opened the downloader and it worked fine. Neither of us know why this worked, but it did. Hope it works for you guys.

could be due to IE's ties to your system's explorer... and you'd be surprised how different applications interact...

Big example - did you know that older versions of Quicktime shut down/crash a lot of sony production software (like Vegas)? Only learned about this because I have an old game that utilizes QT for its cinematics...
