Why is it so hard to get a game?

Greetings,
Ive been playing to a few months now and the longer I have played the harder it is to get a game. Sometimes hours pass in the challenge area without anyone playing. At the same time I find this frustrating, I have also noticed that players are regularly leveling up in ranking. That must mean they are playing somewhere, but I never see them. Is there some other way to play others that I am unaware of?

Case in point, either it be PC or Ipad there are always the same 7-10 players playing. I NEVER see anyone else.

But at the same time I see people ranking up. I have been sitting at a rank or around 250 for the last two days and have never got a chance to play anyone ranked above me.

What I am missing? I know this sounds very newbieish and it probably is, but as a person trying to improve their game, its annoying to never find anyone to play.

So what I am missing?

You need to update app to latest version. 2.023 for Android and PC. 2.024 for iOS.

also worth noting... they still haven't linked the PC client for 2.023 anywhere... so yea... hard to update that unless you're playing from a browser.
