  • I'm looking to build my first Amber deck. Here is my idea, any expert critique?

      I'm looking to build my first Amber deck. Here is my idea, any expert critique?

      ***HERO***
      Amber Rain

      ***Allies (17)***
      3x Jasmine Rosecult
      4x Puwen Bloodhelm
      3x Aldon the Brave
      2x Aeon Stormcaller
      2x Artful Squire
      3x Layarian Seductress

      ***Abilities (13)***
      2x Smashing Blow
      2x Enrage
      3x Crippling Blow
      4x Blood Frenzy
      2x Bad Santa

      ***Items (2)***
      2x Reserve Weapon

      ***Weapons (8)***
      4x Jeweler's Dream
      1x Dragon's Tooth
      3x Spectral Sabre

      TOTAL: 40 cards + Hero

      It's pretty techy with 3 Spectral Sabre, 2 Shield Bash, and 2 Artful Squire. Maybe too much so. It lacks a bit in creature control compared to a lot of Amber decks with no Retreat and -1 Crippling Blow. So, that might be a problem. But, it does have 1 Dragon's tooth in there to help offset vs. fatties. (along with 2 Reserve Weapons you can use if you know you'll be seeing a lot of fatties).

      Looks pretty good but with no retreats I would consider adding a 4th layarian and consider 2 retreats. You do not need dragons tooth. Also artful squire is nice but not really needed. Amber is more aggressive but it doesn't really hurt to have it if u feel its necessary.

      remove a dragon tooth and a spectral.

      Add a crippling and a layarian.

      consider using Irum over puwen, or going 2x on each.

      I like Puwen in Amber decks, she tends not to run many allies and having a unique 2cc lowers the amount of viable allies at any one time.

      Other than that everyone's suggestions are valid. Retreat is a MUST.

      I personally would remove 1 dragon tooth and 1 spectral sabre. Add retreat and Layarian seductress. And I usually only have 1 enrage

      Ok, took some advice. Took out 2 Artful Squire and 1 Dragon's Tooth and added in 3 retreat.

      I'm not too excited to remove that 3rd Spectral Sabre as I anticipate it'll be very useful against matchups that are hard for me. But, maybe you folks will be right in the end.

      I am fine with 2 Spectral Sabre in my Amber. Have you thought of adding in a single copy of War Banner?

      I like Artful Squire in my Amber. It helps me to beat amateur or unlucky Millstalkers in QM. Squire can also destroy IGG/Tome/Woft/JD/AM.

      Well, that was my thought originally when I included teh Artful Squires. But, then folks thought they should come out. Maybe 2 copies of Saber is enough, I don't know. Seems like if your opponent has 4x Blood Frenzy or 4x Lone wolf that 2x Sabre would be too little too late to make much difference. But, seeing as I haven't tried it out I'll take your word that 2x is enough.

      I'll drop to 2x and if I later find that I need more I'll adjust then.

      On War banner. 1x sounds like a fine idea, although it's tough to fit it in there.

      well, i am most certainly not one of those folks. I have beaten millstalker with my amber cos he has slightly worse draw than usual and specifically because I removed his EA with my squire and he could not kill all my allies. I killed him in one turn when my massive army attacked when he ran out of hiding cards.

      I don't run DT weapon, but i run 3 sabres in some of my ambers.
