You realize that Carmilla was published 25 years before Bram Stoker's Dracula, which contains no explicit references but does pay homage to the former?

Cool, a bit of insight. We need more short stories, as opposed to overarching lore. Stuff that gets you in with a particular character.

She was simply impersonating the captain, such was her new found shape changing ability.

Actually, they thought she was dead. Dumped her to the trash or something Maybe a morgue. Dunno. Then she escaped.

An ability which caused her enemies to mistake her for a corpse and remove her somewhere far easier to escape from.
